Manuella Bonura Ribando passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at the age of 90, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Russell T. Ribando, M.D., to whom she was devoted for more than 54 years. Together, they built a family full of love, laughter, and cherished traditions.
Manuella was originally from Hammond, LA, and later resided in Marrero, LA. Manuella's home was the heart of her family; a place where traditions flourished, and love was always abundant. Known for her unconditional love and warm spirit, Manuella had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. It didn't matter who you were or where you came from-if you were in her home, you were family. Whether hosting holiday celebrations or sharing simple, heartfelt conversations, her presence had a way of bringing people together, creating a sense of belonging and comfort.
The legacy of love and togetherness that Manuella and Russell built will endure for generations to come. It shows in the closeness of her children, the stories shared by her grandchildren, and in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Manuella was the devoted mother of the late Guy Benjamin Ribando (Darlene), Rose "Lisa" Ribando Harris (George), Katherine Ribando Sax (Gerard), Gina Ribando Duplessis (Neil Sr.), and Russell T. Ribando, Jr. (Julie).
Manuella's proudest title was Maw-Maw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all thought they were her favorite. Grandchildren: Angela Ribando, Regina Ribando DeBlasio (Steven), Maria Ribando (Tara), Russell R. Ribando (Brandi), Russell J. Brands (Emily), Manuella Brands Picarella (Emile, Jr.), George E. Street, III, Rachel Harris, Katherine Sax Monier (Ryan), Karen Sax Robinson (Lee), Jennifer Sax Duran (Bernabe), Gerri Lynn Sax, Scott M. Wunderlich (Priscilla), Neil P. Duplessis, Jr. (Abbie), Carl R. Duplessis (Anthony), Russell T. Ribando, III (Kady), the late Benjamin R. Ribando, Manuella B. Ribando. Great-Grandchildren: Maddalena, Sofia, Gianna, Steven Guy, Dustin (Moinet), Faith, Bella, Delaune, Ellie, Gia, Emile, III, Benjamin, Luca, Marisa, Enzo, Leah, Nicholas, Zane, Lathan, Demi, Ryan, II, Caroline, Jude, Emma Kate, Tripp, Nolen, Cooper, Charles, Cecile, Mary, Gabe, Gus, Frances, Margaret, Mikey, Annie, Peyton, Neil, III, Ruth, Lena, Victoria, Destini, Aurora, Roman, Davina, Selene, Asher, Isla Jo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Genevieve Brettillo Bonura; her brothers, Anthony Bonura and Nick Bonura (Katie). Manuella was also predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gaetano Ribando and Rosalie Arnone Ribando; her brothers-in-law, Joseph Ribando (Bena, surviving) and Guy Ribando Jr., D.D.S. (Diane, surviving); her sister-in-law, Josephine Governale (Angelo); and her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Rosalie Ribando.
She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Manuella is also survived by Lois Dumas, who has been a cherished member of the family for over 65 years; her love and dedication to the family has been a true blessing.
Manuella's family finds comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Russell; her son, Guy; her grandson, Benjamin; and all the loved ones who passed before her.
In her final year, she was blessed with an extraordinary care team, including Seymone Quinn, Deborah Quinn, and the dedicated staff of Our Lady of Wisdom and Notre Dame Hospice, especially Cassie, Kelemua, Artisha, Hannah, Kia, Christine, Tracy, Vicki (Hospice), Sister Catherine, and Dr. Cabrera, whose compassion and dedication brought much comfort to her and her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Manuella's life during visitation at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 600 N Oak St., Hammond, on Friday, Dec. 27, at 9 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery.
