Patricia "Patty" Mae Sherman Neihaus of Ponchatoula left this world suddenly on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the age of 76 surrounded by her loving family. Patty was born to the late LM "Pete" and Alice Murphy Sherman on May 25, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Patty was a loving wife, mother, Granny, sister, and friend. She was an avid LSU fan along with being a softball and baseball fan. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Patty was employed with Tangipahoa Parish School System as a paraeducator for many years. Patty was known for creating beautiful quilts for her family and friends to enjoy. She also enjoyed going on quilting trips and spending time with her grandsons and family.
Patty is survived by her husband of 50 years, Calvin "Oop" Paul Neihaus; her bonus-daughter, Pamela Neihaus McHale (David), her sons, Henry Paul Neihaus (Angie), and Stephen Michael Neihaus (Aubrey); her grandsons, Kai Joseph Neihaus and Nicholas Paul Neihaus; her sisters, Mary Catherine Sherman Doyle, Judy Sherman, Karen Sherman Bates (Donald); and her brother, Dr. Charles Kenneth Sherman (Barbara); along with many nieces and nephews; her church family at First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula; and her loving quilting family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, "Pete" and Alice Sherman; her brother, Dr. William Sherman; brother-in-law, Dr. Greg Doyle; sister-in-law, Anne Sherman; cousins, Pat Murphy and Rob Murphy; and niece, Caroline Crouch.
The family would like to thank North Oaks Hospital, St. Tammany Hospital, North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, Ponchatoula Community Care Center, and Richard Murphy Hospice House for all the wonderful care that was given to our dear loved one, Patty Neihaus.
Friends and loved ones are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, 1150 US-51, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The visitation will continue the following day, Monday, October 2, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, 325 E. Pine Street Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, beginning at 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
In addition to flowers and plants the family asks that donations be made in memory of Patty Neihaus to the Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation in Hammond, Louisiana.
The family is requesting that everyone bring their favorite quilt created by Patty to adorn the funeral home and/or church.
