Charles Crose Obituary
Charles Chandler Crose was born in Tulare, May 18, 1921, to Charles and Florence Crose. He passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, in Hanford. He was 86.
Charles lived on his parents' homestead in Badger and in Ventura County. In 1930, his family moved to Hanford where he attended local schools and graduated from Hanford High in 1939. An engineering student, he helped survey the COS campus and attended COS the first year it was founded. During college, he took aviation lessons earning a pilot's license. Chandler met Orma Jean Teter at COS, and they were married Oct. 19, 1941.
Chandler was drafted during WWII, and served in the Philippines. He returned home to his green valley to farm; Adrienne and Gail, his daughters, were already born, next came three sons: Charles, Shean and Jeff. He was the happiest farming with his sons. He farmed for the next 50 years, retiring at 67.
Chandler contributed to Kings County Farm Bureau serving as president and director of the State Board. He was recognized in the book Who's Who of the West. He was also a member of the Common Wealth Club of California. A highlight of Chandler's life was visiting his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Ray Morrow, in Mexico.
His hobbies included: chronicling the family history, building model airplanes, woodworking and all things to do with rocks, including jewelry making.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Orma Jean Crose; his sister, Jane Morrow; daughters and sons-in-law, Dale and Adrienne Collins, Anthony and Gail de Campos, sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Beth Crose, Shean and Linda Crose, and Jeff and Barbara Chase; granddaughters, Regan Collins and husband Patrick Loewen, Suzanne de Campos, Lee Anne Lucio and husband Mark, Juliette de Campos, Cindy Kliever and husband Richard, Patricia Rumolo and husband David, Erin Crose and Bryan Wilson, Nancy Talley and husband Kenny, Kelly Douthett and husband Will, Chandra Crose, Charlene Nunez and husband Brandon, Mary Catherine Crose, Roxanne Martinez and husband Gabriel; grandsons, Brett de Campos, Benjamin Crose, Demetrious Ortega and wife Arianna and Uriah Pagayonan; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jared and Jayden Loewen, Alex Kearsey, Christiana Seehafer, Julian de Campos, Olivia Lucio, Megan Rajskup, Michael Anne de Campos-Inkster, Haily, Chris, Anthony and Carsen Kliever, Charlie Crose, Karli Douthett, Chaz Thomas Nunez, Marissa Ortega and Lucian Martinez; and great-great-granddaughter, Riley Loewen. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mitchell Collins, who passed away in 1998.
A graveside service with military honors was held Monday, July 2, 2007.
