Augusta "Fern" Thomure, 97, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 7:37 AM, Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 15, 2025, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Pastor Bruce Bouman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Fern's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral home.
Fern was born August 22, 1928, in Vandalia, IL to Marcus Jackson and Ellen "Nellie" Yochum Jackson.
She was married to Fielding F. Thomure on March 30, 1946, in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2015.
Survivors include her four children, Brenda Hubb (Terrey) of Hannibal, MO, Sonja Thomure of Hannibal, MO, Bonnie Herd of O'Fallon, MO, and Lori Hobson (Larry) of Hannibal, MO; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Thomure; one daughter, Susan Musgrove; five brothers; and two sisters.
Fern was a cook for many years at area restaurants. In her retirement, she was also a nanny for the families Dr. Long and Dr. Ouellette for over 20 years.
Decorating for holidays was one of Fern's greatest joys. Her home became a wonderland of festive cheer, no matter the holiday. Being outdoors held a special place in Fern's heart. She cherished the time spent in nature, whether it was a tranquil afternoon in her garden or a peaceful walk in the park. An avid antique shopper, Fern spent countless hours in search of hidden treasures. Her love for creativity also drew her to Hobby Lobby, where she found inspiration for her many projects and holiday decorating. In the kitchen, Fern was a culinary master, known for her giant homemade cinnamon rolls, meatloaf, roast, and perfectly fried chicken. Above all, Fern's faith and love for the Lord guided her through life's journey. Her spiritual strength was an inspiration to many. Her family was the foundation for her life; she cherished each moment spent with them.
Fern was Christian by faith and attended Mt. Zion Christian Church in Hannibal, MO.
Pallbearers will be Tony Jackson, Shawn Jackson, Brad Thomure, Zachary Hubb, Aaron Musgrove, and Jordan Kinsel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
