David Sheffield Obituary

David Christopher Sheffield, 63, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 2:42 PM, Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home in Hannibal, MO.

Friends and Family are invited to David's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.

David was born October 5, 1960, in Perry, MO to Elmo Eugene Sheffield and Alta Mae O'Brien Sheffield.

He was married to Sharon Ann Greenwood on July 21, 1984, in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2015.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Sheffield (Joel Shinn) of Quincy, IL, stepson, Marc Acosta (Fiancé, Angie Jones) of Hannibal, MO; two brothers, Michael Sheffield (Reva) of Paris, MO and Gene Sheffield (Sherrie) of Perry, MO; three grandchildren, Evan Acosta, Caitlyne Acosta, and Eva Acosta; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Patricia Cotton.

His career spanned decades, starting as an installer for TCI Cable Co. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he later took the reins of his own destiny by founding S&M Cable Contracting. In the latter part of his career, David's work ethic shone through in the manufacturing industry, where he made significant contributions at Pace Industries before concluding his professional journey at ASPEQ in Monroe City.

Outside the boundaries of work, David's passions painted a vivid picture of a man who savored the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader, immersing himself in the rugged landscapes of Louis L'Amour's western novels and the fantastical realms of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series. His love for storytelling extended to the silver screen, where he found comfort and excitement in classic westerns; especially Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and Rifleman. David's appreciation for nature was evident in his outdoor pursuits. He could often be found with a fishing rod in hand at Lick Creek, patiently awaiting the day's catch. His adventurous spirit led him on many float trips along the serene Salt River, where he found tranquility and camaraderie. The majestic scenery of Elephant Rocks and other notable attractions were the frequent backdrop for his hiking excursions or weekend family road trips. Music was a constant companion for David, and he found solace in the melodies and timeless lyrics of classic rock. The tunes of Tom Petty and The Eagles provided a soundtrack to many of his life's moments, both big and small. Among the many joys in David's life was his beloved cat, Oreo. Oreo was more than a pet; he was a source of endless comfort and humor for David. Above all, David cherished the times spent with his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

David was Christian by faith.
