Eric Devon Stephenson, 45, of Elvaston, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at his home.
Eric was born on August 11, 1980, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Mark Stephenson and Vickie Schafer. He attended Hamilton High School, and went on to work as a farm hand until a car accident left him disabled. He enjoyed anything with a motor and wheels: golf carts, old trucks, tractors and motorcycles. He also enjoyed boating and fishing. Eric will always be known for his contagious laugh and his ornery personality. He was always able to make people laugh and enjoyed arm wrestling with his son, listening to country and rock music and spending time with animals.
Eric is survived by his father Mark Stephenson of Elvaston; his mother Vickie Schafer (Kurtis McInroy) of Nauvoo, Illinois; his son Landon Stephenson (Riley McPherson) of Fort Madison, Iowa; four siblings: Toni Hill, Rebecca Schafer, Nicole Gray and Marlana Stephenson; and special friends that became family: Robin and Lennie Anderson, Mandy and Cliff Dodson and Brandy and Corey Vanderpool. Other survivors include many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eric is preceded in death by his grandparents: Ted and Ethel Stephenson, Merle and Ada Glines, Devon and Beulah Stephenson and Beverly Brink; and his aunt Sharon Koehler.
Private family services will be held, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois.
Memorials may be directed to the Hancock County Humane Society.
