Mark Anthony "Smitty" Smith, 62, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 3:30 AM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Friends and Family are invited to Mark's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 4, at Clover Road Christian Church in Hannibal, MO.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, November 4, at the church. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
The family is being served by the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.
Mark was born December 8, 1960, in Hannibal, MO to Leon B. Smith Sr. and Juanita A Tyree Smith. He was married to Tammy Kirchner on November 30, 2019, in Hannibal, MO. She survives.
Other survivors include his two children, Rachel Closser (Jason) of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Kelsey Rickey (Brenton) of Hannibal, MO; four stepchildren, Kala Gebhard (Fritz) of St. Louis, MO, Kyle Yates (Ashley Crill) of Villisca, IA, Kody Yates (Christine) of St. Louis, MO, and Janna Yates of Branson, MO; one sister, Rita V. Paden of Quincy, IL; one sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Hannibal, MO; nine grandchildren, Gracie Closser, Vera Closser, Brentley Rickey, Calvin Gebhard, Chase Gebhard, Delaney Yates, Taylor Yates, Adeline Yates, and Elizabeth Yates; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leon Smith Jr.; and one niece, Melissa Smith-McCutcheon.
Mark retired from BASF as a Production Supervisor after 43 years of service. Mark also enjoyed working part time as a realtor for Goodhart Realty in the past.
Mark loved sports and especially liked following St. Louis Blues hockey, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Dallas Cowboys football. Traveling with his wife Tammy brought Mark joy, trips to Jamaica, Florida and Lake of the Ozarks were special. Mark loved to be out on the water, whether boating, fishing or simply enjoying the beach. Mark's barbequing talents were well known and he loved to host family gatherings and treat everyone to his barbequed chicken and famous macaroni salad. A gifted musician in his school years, Mark played the saxophone and earned first place honors at State his senior year, along with the John Phillip Sousa Award and a music scholarship to Truman State University. Celebrating Christmas with family, listening to live music with his wife, Tammy, and watching old Clint Eastwood westerns were a few of Mark's favorites. Most of all Mark cherished being a husband, dad, papa and brother and always looked forward to the moments he shared with family.
Mark was a member of Clover Road Christian Church in Hannibal, MO.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Tate, Wade McElvain, Jason Closser, Brenton Rickey, Chet Smith, Dana Graham, and Kenny Kendall.
