Funeral Services for Opal Lucille Shulse, 100, of Center, will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 14, 2025 at Olivet Christian Church in Center with Pastor Phyllis Hart and Pastor Leanne Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
Mrs. Shulse passed away at 12:45 PM Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal surrounded by her family.
Lucille was born on July 14, 1925 in Hatch, Missouri the daughter of Robert Levin McClintock and Helen Lavena Watkins McClintock,
She was married by the Reverend Johnnie Golden on January 8, 1943 in Hannibal to Vincel Davis Shulse and he preceded her in death on December 2, 2011.
Survivors include her son; Michael (Lynn) Shulse of Hannibal, two daughters; Brenda (Richard) Hecht of Chesterfield, and Janet Golian of Center, seven grandchildren; Chris (Tracey) Shulse, Laura Shulse, Andrew (Angie) Golian, Keith (Molly) Golian, Matthew Hecht, Daniel (Rebecca) Hecht, and Jill Hecht, eleven great grandchildren; Austin Shulse, Ashlee Shulse, Aiden Shulse, Ally Golian, Hunter Golian, Hailey Golian, Christian Hecht, Camryn Hecht, Lucy Hecht, Abel Hecht, and Dorothy Hecht, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Davis Shulse, an infant son Mark Alan Shulse, infant granddaughter Amanda Kay Hecht, sister Reva Rothfuss, two brothers; John McClintock and Robert Nelson McClintock, and her son-in-law David Golian.
Lucille was a devoted wife, mother, and community servant whose life was marked by faith, friendship, and service to others. A lifelong resident of Ralls County, she dedicated her time and talents to her church, her neighbors, and her community.
Lucille was a charter member of the Center Young Mother's Club and an active member of the Center Neighbors Club. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her deep faith guided her throughout her life, and she was instrumental in starting the Christmas Eve services at Olivet Christian Church, where she faithfully served as a Deaconess and member of the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF). She was baptized at Ariel Church (Salt River) and remained a devoted member of Olivet Christian Church.
Lucille worked diligently for Ralls County, serving as Deputy County Collector from 1982 to 1990, and as County Collector from 1991 to 1999. Her commitment to public service earned her the Grassroots Worker Award at Democrat Days a recognition of her steadfast dedication to her community and her values. Her great-grandfather, Luke Weldon Watkins, made family history as the first Democratic representative from Ralls County in Jefferson City in 1846, a legacy of service Lucille proudly continued.
She also spent ten years as an Avon Representative, bringing her friendly smile and warm spirit to homes throughout the area. Lucille enjoyed a full life surrounded by friends and family. She loved cooking and sewing, playing Canasta with her card club, and camping with her husband Davis and their camping club friends. Known for her delicious cinnamon rolls which she joyfully shared with others, Lucille's kindness and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone she met.
Lucille will be remembered for her faith, her love for people, and her deep-rooted commitment to community and family. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
Pallbearers will be Chris Shulse, Andrew Golian, Keith Golian, Daniel Hecht, Austin Shulse, and Hunter Golian.
Honorary pallbearers will be Laura Shulse, Ashlee Shulse, Jill Hecht, Ally Golian, and Hailey Golian.
