Alex married Margaret Kerr in Glasgow on June 29, 1951. They met on the ballroom dance floor and were, as he said throughout their 73-year marriage, a perfect fit. Alex immigrated to Windsor, Canada in 1955, where he worked any job he could find to support a growing family – on the railroad, in factories, delivering pizzas.
In 1972 Alex immigrated to Stevensville to work with MPH Industries installing and repairing die cast furnaces. Until his retirement in 2000, his job took him on the road at least 45 weeks a year.
Alex golfed regularly at Pebblewood Country Club, enjoyed evenings at the Elks Lodge, Benton Harbor, and danced with Maggie at every opportunity. He was a dapper man, and proud of his stylish wife. They loved to throw parties to bring family and friends together.
After retiring, Alex and Maggie wintered in Florida and volunteered at New Troy Community Center.
Cancer made Alex's later years difficult, but he was a resilient man. His love for "wee Maggie" only grew. To the end, he was devoted to his 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Survived by wife, Margaret; children: Alexander; John; Lorraine (Terry) Hanover; Scott (Maggie); and Patrick; grandchildren: Tara (Eric) Heiser; Gavin (Carol) Hanover; Cameron Hanover; Aaron (Sarah) Oman; Eric (Katie) Oman; April Oman; Julisia Oman; Konrad Oman; Keegan Oman; and Nicole Oman.
Alex was preceded in death by parents, Alexander Oman and Ellen (McBain); siblings Ian (Mary) Oman, Jim (Rita) Oman, and Joyce Bolton, and great-great grandson, Otto Stern.
