MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - Lucille Ann Christopher, 86, of Michigan City, formerly of New Buffalo, Michigan, passed away on February 8, 2023, at home.
Lucille was born September 16, 1936 in Galien, Michigan, and was the daughter of John and Lillian (Henspeter) Hauch.
On September 30, 1954, she married Gordon Christopher and together they owner and operated numerous gas stations and later apartment complexes in New Buffalo, Michigan.
Lucille loved to travel, go to yard sales, and shop at Goodwill. Her hobbies included making porcelain dolls, sewing and knitting.
Survivors include her daughters, Gloria (Andy) Vavra of Three Oaks, Michigan, and Jean Welnetz of Michigan City. Daughter-in-law Kristine Christopher of Milan, Illinois; sisters, Jane (William) Brackett of Niles, Michigan and Joyce (Larry) Green of Three Oaks, Michigan. Grandchildren Shaila Christopher and Brittany (Tony) Kosek of Milan, Illinois; Natalie (Adam) Sroka of Cary, North Carolina; Steven Porterfield of Okemos, Michigan; Deanna Porterfield of Three Oaks, Michigan; Stuart Vavra of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Hannah Vavra of Grandville, Michigan; Savannah (Briant McKinney) Welnetz of Osceola, Indiana; and Jacob Welnetz of Michigan City. Great-grandchildren Eden and Lillian Sroka of Cary, North Carolina.
She is preceded in death by Gordon, her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, son Wayne Christopher, daughter, Gayle Porterfield and granddaughter Emily Vavra, her brothers John, Jim and Jerry Hauch and sisters Julia Clayton and Loretta Zielke.
There will be no funeral. Private services will be held at a later date.
The Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
