He will be remembered fondly for a long time by many of us who knew and worked with him at the UVM Summer Music Session. I was there 1963-65 and am Coordinator of the upcoming Reunion in Burlington Aug. 10-12, 2018. I wonder whether any of his descendants would be interested in attending? I'm sure we'd all love to meet and see them there!

I was a violin student of Mr. Mishkind's in the late 70's/early 80's at the Hartt School of Music. I learned important things from him, and sometimes regret that I wasn't always the best student for him in terms of my frequency of practice. Nonetheless, under his instruction (and despite the ebb and flow of my practice diligence!) I grew as a musician and had several opportunities to play in fine orchestras as a teenager, including an All-Eastern orchestra with students from 13 east coast states, as well as the Greater Hartford Youth Orchestra under the direction of Bernard Lurie.

I am now 42 and am a violin teacher myself, with 22 students in my own private music studio. I often think of him with gratitude for his patience and skill. I feel music is a true gift in my life. That I am able to have the privilege to share music with others as both a teacher and a colleague/peer is yet a further gift for me. Music is one of the most important parts of my life, and Mr. Mishkind is one of the people to whom I owe sincere and heartfelt gratitude.

I am very sorry for your family's loss. He will be remembered with love and appreciation by many.

Condolances from a Hartt '76' Alumnus. I have fond memories of a fine teacher who willfully and good naturedly transformed my younger sister's violin technique, allowing her to be proficiant enough to play in some wonderful youth orchestras. I know of what I speak, for I am now a string teacher in the public schools.

Working with a "ruined" violinist is a thankless job, but Mr Mishkind went ahead and took my sister on after other teachers had let things go bad, patiently addressing her many problems. I often think of him when I am tempted to give up on a student who comes to me with previously instilled bad habits.

I am not a violinist, and I never studied with Mr. Mishkind, but it certainly is interesting that my memory of him helps me in my teaching the way it does. I guess we never know where the fruits of our labors turn up as time moves on, do we?
