Adele CAFFREY Obituary
Adele Marion (Hicks) Caffrey, 67, of West Hartford a loving Mother, Grandmother and companion passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, November 19 surrounded by her family. Born in Hartford, Adele was the daughter of the late Norman and Marion (Coulter) Hicks. She was raised in the Elmwood section of West Hartford and was a graduate of Conard High School. She was employed by the J. C. Penney Company for over 30 years until her retirement in 2008. Adele is survived by her companion of 40 years Douglas Maschi of West Hartford, her Sons Kevin C. Caffrey of Rocky Hill and Kyle J. Caffrey and his wife Mikel-Ann of South Windsor and her four grandchildren Kylie, Conor, Keegan and Kiernan Caffrey of South Windsor. Her brother Norman (Skip) Hicks and his wife Elaine of Newington and sister-in-law Rosemary Hicks. Adele was predeceased by her brother Wilson E. Hicks of Enfield. Adele took great joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She enjoyed the outdoors and would garden and take care of the birds that passed through her yard. She was an extraordinary women, kind, thoughtful, strong and proud who will be loved and missed by many. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, Nov. 22 at noon at Saint Francis of Assisi Church at 673 Ellington Rd., South Windsor followed by a reception in the Parish Hall where the family will receive friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kyle, Kevin & Dougie I was saddened to learn of Adele's passing. Her help with my mothers care was greatly appreciated. Over the years I have thought of her more times than you could imagine.

I had the blessing of know Adele just this past year. What an amazing and wonderful woman! Someone in the comments called her a saint. I agree. She touched everyone in the room, every time I saw her, with her attention and concern-all the while ignoring her own challenges. I will miss her a lot. What an experience it has been to share some time with her. My condolences to Doug and to her family. Her loving nature is sure to endure.

I worked with Adele at Penney's from 1979-1989. Though at times the job was not enjoyable, Adele always made me smile and I looked forward to going to work to see her.
She was caring woman who was devoted to her family.
We lost touch for several years but I did run into her recently at the Fernwood. It was great to see her again. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to see her before she passed.

Adele was a dear long distance friend whom I met through my sister Janet. She was such a kind, loving and thoughtful soul and a great girlfriend! My heart goes out to Doug and all of her family. She was so proud of her grandchildren. A great lady has departed from us but is now soaring with her ever present angels.

It was with great sadness that I read about "Auntie Del"s passing. So many many Memories of all of us together – her taking care of me and my sisters and then my sisters and I taking care you and Dougie driving us home, Auntie Del doing my hair for my wedding and embracing all my children and forever being apart of our lives.

This morning I was remembering sitting with her at Sterling field watching the Beacon softball games, We
