Alaire M. (Uelmen), R.N.
Alaire M. (Uelmen) Rees, R.N., 90, of Simsbury, beloved wife of Clark H. Rees, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, (February 5, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. She was born November 23, 1921 in Sheboygan, WI, daughter of the late Henry and Claire (Bowser) Uelmen. Alaire graduated Nursing school from Mercy Hospital in Gary, IN. She worked at the Infant Welfare Society in Chicago, IL and was a Registered Nurse at Mount Sinai for 17 years prior to her retirement. Alaire was also a participant in The Harvard Nurse's Health Study since 1976. She was a member of Saint Mary's Church and The Rosary Guild in Simsbury and was a member of the Simsbury Historical Society. She participated in the Saint Mary's Players Theater Group and Simsbury Summer Theater for Youth. Alaire had a passion for the education and advancement of young children. Besides her loving husband of 64 years, she is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Penny and Larry Baum of Camden, ME, and Carol Rees of Simsbury, three sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Eileen Rees of Tolland, Thomas Rees of Maplewood, NJ and Mark and Beth Rees of Portland, ME; six grandchildren, Kristina Gordon, Gregory Rees, Daniel Rees, Andrew Rees, Chelsea Rees and Meredith Rees; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen Jerry Gilboy of Lakeside, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Peter and her eldest grandson Brian Baum.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, February 10 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 11 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Inurnment will follow in the Sycamore Mausoleum at the Simsbury Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Midland Foundation, P.O. Box 5026, North Branch, NJ, 08876 and to the School for Young Children at Saint Joseph College, 238 Steele Road, West Hartford, CT, 06117.
