Albert SILKEY Obituary



SILKEY Jr., Albert M.
Albert M. Silkey, Jr., 66, of East Hartland, formerly of Granby, passed away Tuesday, (December 6, 2011) at Bristol Hospital. Born in Westfield, MA, son of the late Albert M. Silkey, Sr. and Charlotte (Orpin) Silkey, he grew up in Granby and graduated from Granby Memorial High School in 1964. Al lived in Granby before retiring to Sarasota, FL in 1988 and returned to Bristol, Connecticut in 2010. He was employed for 22 years retiring in 1987 from Chandler Evans Corp. in West Hartford. Al enjoyed country western and 50's music and was a drummer for the Melody Rangers Band and the Dark Mountain Band for many years. A sports fan for many years, he sponsored the Granby Raiders softball team and many other men and women's softball teams in the area. Al was an avid fisherman, enjoyed the warm weather, and was a Red Sox fan. He leaves a brother, Ernest R. Silkey of Agawam, MA; two sisters, Charlotte Silkey of East Hartland and Penny Louise Stanton of Phoenix, AZ; and two nephews, Jeremy Seam and Carol Seam; and many cousins. He leaves an uncle, Michael A. Silkey of Sarasota, FL, and was predeceased by a good friend, Russ Waite and several aunts and uncles. His family would like to thank the staff at Village Green in Bristol, the Bristol Hospital ICU, and Yale New Haven Hospital for their loving care and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, (December 10, 2011) 10 a.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will follow in East Hartland Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Friday, December 9th from 6:30-8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Lost Acres Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 71, Granby, CT 06035. For online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
