Andrew Manzi Obituary

MANZI, Andrew S. Andrew S. Manzi, of Niantic passed away suddenly on Saturday, (April 4, 2009) at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and he was surrounded by his sons and friends. Andrew was born in Spingfield, MA on September 9, 1929 and was the son of the late Saverio and Maria Manzi. He formerly resided in Hartford, and served on the Hartford Police Department for 35 years until retiring as a Lieutenant in 1990. He was a graduate of the F.B.I. National Training Academy in 1970 and taught Drug Interdiction courses throughout the country in the 1970's. He was a past Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion Rau-Locke Post # 8 in Hartford. Andy was very active in youth athletics and coached little league, CYO and American Legion baseball for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Army from 1948 through 1952. While serving his country proudly he played baseball and football for the Army and once scored four touchdowns in a single game. Andrew was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, and is survived by his sister, Mary Spinazolla; his sons, Andrew C. Manzi and his companion Monica Snelgrove, Michael Manzi and his wife Evelyn, Richard Manzi and his wife Teresa, William Manzi and his wife Luldes; his grandchildren, Marc, Jenny, Lisa, William, Michael, Hayley and Joey. He also leaves behind his constant companion, Doris Roy; two very special friends and neighbors, Patti and Kevin McMahon; his forever Army buddy, Eddie Hernandez and hundreds of friends and brother officers. In keeping with Andrew's last request funeral services will be private and there will be no calling hours. A memorial gathering to honor Andrew's life will be scheduled in the near future.

I was saddened to hear of Andys passing.Andy was truly a cops cop.He helped more people than many will ever know since he simply did things without caring about who got credit.
I have many good memories of our time together at HPD and our friendship in the years after.I'm sure that right now Andy is negotiating the rules with St.Michael before he settles in so he can"do it his way"
