Ann Fernandes Obituary

FERNANDES, Ann F. (Lopes) Ann F. (Lopes) Fernandes, 84, of Tiverton, died Sunday, (April 5, 2009) at St. Elizabeth's Manor Bristol, RI. Born in Portsmouth, RI, on February 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late George S Lopes and Catherine Holland. Mrs. Fernandes was a Communicant of St Christopher's Church as well as a member of the St Christopher's Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Tiverton Garden Club. She enjoyed photography, swimming, reading, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, John E. Fernandes of White Plains, MD, and Mark J. Fernandes of Cheshire; four daughters, Ann Marie Gaudreau of Wethersfield and Arlington, VA, Mary Lou Recene of West Hartford and Tiverton RI, Judy Rowland of Haddon Township, NJ, and Carolyn J. Souza of Tiverton, RI; two sisters, Catherine Butterworth of Windsor and Betty Mello of Middletown, RI; ten grandchildren, Brian Fernandes, Marisa Gaudreau Riley, Kevin Fernandes, Justin Gaudreau, Daniel Fernandes, Todd Recene, Amy Souza, Scott Recene, Kyle Rowland, and Paul Souza; one great grandson, Andrew Fernandes; a brother-in-law, George T. Sullivan of Middletown, RI, and a sister-in-law, Betty Lopes of Portsmouth, RI. She was also the sister of the late Ed Lopes, George S. Lopes Jr., and Barbara Sullivan, and grandmother of the late Diane Fernandes. Her funeral will be held, Wednesday, April 8, at 9 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, 1584 Main Road, Tiverton, RI. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pocassett Hill Cemetery in Tiverton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI, 02906 or to the Visiting Nurses of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI, 02871. Dear Cousins,

Sorry to hear this sad news...We'll have fond memories of Ann and her famous "Butter Brownies"...Never made with Margarine or butter substitutes.
