BURKE, Anne B. Anne B. Burke, 88, of Farmington Woods, Avon, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Burke passed away on Wednesday, (November 15, 2006) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Anne was born on August 22, 1918 in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from D'Youville College in Buffalo with a BA in English and History, Class of 1939. She lived in West Hartford for 21 years before moving to Avon in 1985. She was a devout Catholic, a founding member of St. Peter Claver Church, West Hartford and more recently supported the building project at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Unionville. Through the years, she was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and was active in various PTA's. She taught CCD at St. Peter Claver Church. Anne was a dedicated member of the Farmington Woods Association Women's Club, hosting the "Taste of the Woods" annual pot luck luncheon each year. She was an insatiable reader and loved participating in the Farmington Woods Book Club. She was active in sports throughout her life, having played tennis, paddle tennis, bowling and she especially loved golf. For years, including this September, she hosted the annual Farmington Woods Golf Club picnic. Anne volunteered at the Woods' Master Association, working on the monthly newsletter. She was the owner and for years served as Chairman of the Board of American Electro Products, Inc. in Waterbury. She loved to dance, enjoyed attending plays at the Hartford Stage Co. and treasured her many friends from West Hartford and Avon. Her life long passions were her family, her faith, current events and politics. She was always ready to engage in a political debate! Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Phil Ranallo. She is survived by her two sisters, Rose Sapecky of Cape Coral, FL; and Mary Louise Anders of Bonifay, FL; eight loving children, Robert E. Burke, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Killington, VT; William J. Burke and his wife Kathleen of Middletown; Dennis M. Burke and his wife Sharon of Glastonbury; Richard E. Burke of New York City, NY; Leonard K. Burke and his wife Dawn of West Hartford; Kathleen B. Jarret of Chicopee, MA; Maureen A. Pollard and her husband James of Harwich, MA; and Margaret B. "Peggy" Hall and her husband Bruce of Unionville; 21 grandchildren, William Pollard, James Pollard, David Jarret, Sharon Ensign, Lynne Smith, Karen Hall, Kristin Palo, William Burke, Jr., Robert E. Burke, III, Tyler Burke, Sean-Patrick Burke, Jessica Burke, Michael Burke, Kevin Burke, Matthew Burke, Kelly Burke, Molly Burke, Meghan Hall, Collin Hall, Elena Hall, and Annie Burke; and 12 great-grandchildren, Danielle Hall, Devan Hall, John Palo, III, Gillian Ensign, Nicholas Ensign, Brielle Ensign, Austin Jarret, Allison Pollard, Steven Pollard, John Pollard, Maureen Pollard and Saige Smith. The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov. 19, 4-7 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 16 Bidwell Square, Unionville. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
