Anthony Colangelo Obituary

Anthony J. Colangelo, Sr., 84, of Bristol, passed away on Thursday (August 5, 2021) at The Hospital of Central CT with his loved ones by his side. Tony was one of eight children, born on June 5, 1937 to the late Rosa (Massa) and Panteleone Colangelo. He grew up in the South End of Hartford and attended Bulkeley High School before moving to Bristol in 1991. Tony spent his career with the Metropolitan District Commission for 32 years as a specialist before retiring in 1999. In his retirement, he became a Ranger at the West Hartford Reservoir. Tony married Marie Hutchinson in 1960. Together they had four children: Sherry, Anthony, Raymond, and Joseph. Marie succumbed at the age of 31, leaving Tony with four young children who he raised with the help of his family. In 1992, Tony was lucky to have found and married a second soul-mate, Stephanie (Ryan) Fabrizio and gained an additional three children: Dean, Gregg, and Shelby. He grew into the role of "Poppy" and was most happy surrounded by his new, large family. He was an avid sports fan and acted as a sideline coach at all of his children's, grandchildren's, great grandchildren's sporting events and was there to support their many interests such as dance, chess, Legos, drama, and Jiu Jitsu ... He was their #1 coach and cheerleader. He had a keen mind when it came to sports history, players, and statistics. Poppy loved to dance; his unique dancing talents cleared the floor and special occasions were not complete without his moves. He loved playing cards with friends and family and enjoyed going to the casino. He was always a fan of a good meal. Tony leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Stephanie Colangelo, his children Sherry (Joe) Tancredi, Tony (Joy) Colangelo, Joseph (Pam) Colangelo, Dean (Kim) Fabrizio, Gregg Fabrizio (Erin Wood), and Shelby (Matt) Macdonald; his grandchildren: Marie (Chris) Sanzo, Marissa (Jay) Bouvier, John Tancredi, Anthony (Erica) Colangelo and Matthew, Samantha, Brianna, Joseph, and Paul Colangelo, Kelly and Ryan Colombie, Kate, Brittany, Molly and Ryan Fabrizio, and Riley and Andrew Macdonald; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He leaves an abundance of friends including Butchie Brown, Deb Fabrizio, and Robert Fabrizio. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his wife Marie (Hutchinson) Colangelo, his seven brothers and sisters, his son Raymond Colangelo and his grandson Kevin Fabrizio. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11AM on (Saturday) August 14, 2021 at St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol, with Military Honors to follow. Per Tony's request, he will be laid to rest privately. Funk Funeral Home, Bristol, has the honor of serving Tony's family. Please visit Tony's memorial website at www.FunkFuneralHome.com
