I have great memories of Arthur and me playing duets in my basement through grammar school and high school - two teenagers learning music and talking about life. We were both in the Louis W. Batchelder and Bulkeley High School bands. We were also part of the group that started the first jazz band at Bulkeley. Art had a natural feel for jazz which every one could hear. He even visited me at Boston College and sat in with the jazz band there. Richie Cole, one of Art's alto sax idols, was also jamming with us that day. It was a real highlight!
In those formative years, Art was a true friend. Thank you for the music and friendship, Art. I say your name to keep your spirit alive.

I can still remember you having such a great time at our high school reunions, you never missed them. I remember you doing the stroll.. You were such a wonderful person. You are truly missed at our reunions but we salute you and include you in all of them, with all the others who have crossed over. RIP my dear classmate and friend.

Just learned of the passing of one of the most caring and compasionate doctors that I have ever had in my 82 years. When I first moved to the Cape I was so uncertain and not looking forward to having to change doctors - Dr. Jolie put me at ease the first day I met him in his Falmouth office. I was saddened the day he told me he was leaving to take on a new venture in NC but wished him and his family the very best as I knew he would thrive as it was in his nature to do so. To his surviving family and close friends your memories of a truly great man will gt you through each day. As you hear that special song or pass by a picture ... You will smile from within. God Bless.

Eulogy for My Brother as delivered at his Funeral Mass April 5, 2011
Thank you all for being present today, especially those who have traveled such long distances. Arthur would have been humbled and it means so much to us, his family.
All of you have known my brother as either "Arthur", "Art", "Jolie", "Dr. Jolie"...as a Husband, a Dad, a Son, Son-in-Law, Nephew, Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Friend or, Colleague.
To Me, growing up as kids, "Artie" was my Big Brother HERO. Being someone who did not blow his own horn, unless it was his saxaphone from a bandstage somewhere...it's unlikely any of you know of his early accomplishments.
In our earlier years, brother Art was a tough act to follow...He was the winning pitcher for his Champion Little League Team...My Hero
He received the highest level Blue Ribbon Award in the State Science Fair for his project on the ATOM and aaspired at the age of 14 to become a nuclear physicist of all things..my HERO.
Graduating from the 8th grade at the top of his class he was awarded the General Excellance Award...my HERO.
At 17, as President of the Hartford Chapter of the Junior Red Cross, he traveled to Virginia to deliver a speech in front of some 800+ attendees..My HERO and INSPIRATION.
Art's natural call to service and leadership remained a constant throughout his adult life. Subtle and without fanfair - his genuine humility , self-deprecating personna and love of people earned him the admiration and affinity of friends and colleagues.
He was not one to wave his own flag - rather, he SERVED his flag and country through his 4 years as a medical specialist in the US Air Force and, following his gradution from medical school, his 16 years ini the US Army medical corps as a physician and internist - serving in posts across the US, Europe and, Haiti. He was respected by his peers and colleagues and trusted by his patients.
And...all during these years, without a hint of prejudice, he championed the causes and concerns of those less fortunate, the physically and mentally handicapped, including his work with the Special Olympics. Art also had a real big heart for animals which clearly explains his compassion for his 6 resuce dogs including his favorite...three legged Lucky.
While medicine was his Vocation, Art's Passion was Music - Jazz specifically. Playing the alto sax since 7th grade he was known by his friends as "The Man with the Horn". That horn traveled the world with him and, as he wished, it will be with him in his eternal resting place....The Heavens are gonna swing tonight!
In the band he would play those musical arrangements in 3/4 or 4/4 time...but in life he was most always on "Jolie Time"...Tarty Artie...you surely could NOT set a clock by him.
Art was the "real deal"...no airs or pretensions, no braggadoccio...he remained a common man with simple and pure aspirations his entire life.
He was most happy when his family was with him. A devoted husband and nurturing father - he was most content when hem,m Susan and his two daughters, Kelsey and Whitney were all together.
He truly lived in the moment...his pranks and infectious humor truly brought great joy to all in his company.
So that Art hur's untimely and sudden passing not be in vain, I ask of all present here today 3 things - one, Please take yourself for a blood pressure screening; two, Reach out to a family member or friend - give them a hug and tell them how much they mean to you and , three - make someone laugh today ...Art would have.
Art's irrepressible personality shall live on in all of our hearts and minds...and to me..he will forever remain my "Big Brother" and OUR hero. Rest in Peace Art.

To The Jolie Family,
I am deeply saddened. Art, John, and I started a great brotherhood, while we were in the Air Force together in Alaska.
Art will truely be missed, for he was always willing to give to his fellowman even when had very little material things, not once but many times.
The three of us were different but the same especially with our love for jazz.
My codolences to the Jolie Family.

Dear Sue and girls,
We were deeply saddened to hear of Art's passing. We have such tremendous memories of our short shared time at Madigan and Fr. Leavenworth. I always loved Art's droll sense of humor. I still laugh thinking about several golf outings I had with him and his response to some bad shots. God bless you and comfort you. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Jolie Family:
I send my deepest sympathy to Susan, Art's children and his entire family. Art and I were classmates at Bulkeley High School of which I hold fond memories. I was fortunate to spend time with him at our high school reunion and learn what a successful man he had become. The Art I knew was a kind and gentle young man who molded himself into an exemplary human being in his adult life. He was never afraid to strive to become the best at whatever he set his mind to, and all those who knew him from either his military service, his profesional life or his recreational love of jazz can corroborate this. I am still in shock over this sad and untimely news. Surely his reward in Heaven will outshine his earthly contributions and the joy he gave all of us. Sleep well, my dear friend.

I've had the privilege of sitting next to Art in the alto sax section of the Winston-Salem Community Band every Monday evening for the past several years. We laughed and made stupid jokes and grumbled at each other for missing key signatures and miscounting long rests. I can't believe he's gone. He was a light in the darkness.

Dear the Jolie Family - I was shocked to hear the news last Monday during our band rehearsal of Art's condition. I play alto sax as well, and had known Art for only a couple years. He had been in my thoughts ever since and I was so sorry to hear about his passing. Your family is in my thoughts and I wish you some peace during this time of loss.
