Barbara Crouse

1933 - 2014

Barbara Crouse of Suffield CT passed away November 16, 2014. She was born October 14, 1933 in Winsted CT to Mary (Perotti) Condon and Henry Condon. She contracted polio and was paralyzed in 1935, but despite this led a full and active life. She graduated from Gilbert High in 1950, and married Louis Crouse in 1957. She raised three daughters, Veronica, Carol and Bernadette. She graduated valedictorian from Greater Hartford Community College in 1978. After learning to drive a car with only hand controls she worked as a senior accountant in charge of grants and contracts at University of CT Health Center until her retirement in 1990. She lived independently in Cromwell until declining health prompted her to move in with her daughter Carol and her beloved son-in-law Bill Whelan in January of 2010. She spent many happy years there, and was very grateful to Sacred Heart Church during her time in Suffield. She is survived by her daughters, Veronica Mace of Rockville CT, Carol Whelan of Suffield CT, Bernadette Kasacek of Andover CT ; her grandchildren Barbara Mace, Andrew Whelan, Daniel Whelan, Mary McBride, Ansley McBride, Robert McBride and Emma McBride and her son-in-law Bill Whelan. She is also survived by her brother James Condon of Port Henry NY, and was predeceased by her beloved brother Henry Condon. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Homemakers and Companions for all their care these last five years, especially Colleen, Gina and Elaine, as well as Ruth Davis and Father Davito of Sacred Heart Parish. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Suffield CT on Friday November 21, 2014 at 10:00 am. Burial and a graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm at St. Joseph Cemetery in North Canaan CT. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to EWTN
