Barbara Holland Obituary

HOLLAND, Barbara D. (Doody) Barbara D. (Doody) Holland died suddenly on Friday, (May 11, 2007), in South Weymouth, MA. while visiting with friends. She was born on April 25, 1929, the daughter of Thomas Doody and Lydia (Mettler) Doody. She had been the loving wife of, and was predeceased by her husband and one true love, Ernest S. Holland, in 1978. Mr. Holland had been a teacher in the Madison Public Schools. Barbara lived in Madison for over 40 years. She leaves behind her three beloved daughters and their families, Gretchen Cummings and Jim Mayo of Madison, Heidi Holland Campbell and John Campbell of Madison, and Ginny Holland Perkins and Bryan Perkins of Ivoryton. She was the extremely proud and beloved Grandmother of William Cummings and Barbara Anne Cummings, and Kallian and Marley Holland Rivard and their sister, Elizabeth Rivard, all of Madison, and Tosh and Forrest Perkins of Ivoryton. She leaves behind her only sibling, her sister, Lydia Waterhouse, and brother-in-law John Waterhouse, of Venice, FL., and Chatham, MA. Barbara's three nieces were like daughters to her as well, Lydia Waterhouse Ouellette and Allen Ouellette of Hartford, and Chatham, MA., Megan Waterhouse Terrell and Andrew Terrell of Alexandria, VA, and Sarah Waterhouse and Todd Shasha of Ivoryton. Barbara was the proud and loving Great Aunt, "Gramma Barb", to her wonderful grand nieces and nephews, Ryan and Lydia Shasha, and Caitlin and Ian Terrell. Barbara also leaves behind numerous first cousins and extended family who share the Doody name. Barbara lived a robust life filled with family and friends. Barbara graduated from Saint Joseph College in Hartford. She had worked at the Southern New England Telephone Company in New Haven, and retired from the Shore Line Times Newspapers in Guilford. Barb was a member of Saint Margaret Catholic Church in Madison, The Empty Nester's Club of Madison, and Curves of Madison. In celebration of Barb's life, there will be visiting hours at the Swan Funeral Home in Madison on Tuesday, May 15, from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Margaret Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Barbara (Doody) Holland.
