Barbara Spada Obituary

Barbara J. Spada (Spadaccaini), 85 of Cromwell, formally of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Middlesex Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer with her devoted son Joey by her side. She is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Louis "Louie" Spada, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters including Mary Ann Gorman (Spadaccaini) of Rocky Hill, Lena Spadaccaini of Middletown, and Jennie Jacobson of Middletown. And her father-in-law Joseph Spada, and mother-in-law Marcella Spada (Pazzetta) of Middletown.

Barbara was born April 25, 1938 to the late Dominick and Angelina (Carbonaro) Spadaccaini. She was raised in Rocky Hill and worked many years at the Goodyear Rubber Company in Middletown where she met her husband, Louie. After marriage she became a long-time resident and fixture of High Street in Middletown. Following the closing of the Goodyear plant, she worked another 34 years at the Hartford Bearing Company before retiring in 2002. In her retirement she enjoyed her daily trips to Public Market on Main Street (later Westside Market of Rocky Hill), coffee out with her sister Mary Ann, watching her "stories" on tv, chatting on the phone for hours, Sunday market shopping, and her Friday and Saturday night dinners out. Known by many as "Bobbie", she made friends wherever she went. She was a favorite customer to so many stores and restaurants in Middletown, Cromwell, and Rocky Hill that considered her not only a patron and friend, but family.

Surviving Barbara are her son Joseph "Joey" Spada of Cromwell, brothers-in-law Vincent Spada and his wife Barbara of Tewksbury, MA and Joseph Spada and his wife Martha of Southington. Nieces Elise Lee of Tewksbury, MA, Doreen Zywocinski of Rochester, NY, Gina Andrews of Southington, and Marcy Bryan of South Windsor. Nephews William "Billy" Gorman Jr. of New Britain, Matthew Spada of Tewksbury, MA, and Paul Spada of Boston, MA. As well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, December 26th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High Street, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Sebastian Church, Middletown on Wednesday, December 27th at 10 a.m., followed by burial in the family plot in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
