Hard to believe we lost this fine man. I am retired now but never forgot this legend of a guy. He was respected by everyone around him, the kids, the teachers, the administrators. I doubt anyone in that school was able to pick up where he left off, as it takes someone very special to do what he did...

You will be missed. Rest in paradise and say hi to my baby girl for me. My deepest condolences to your wife and children. We love you Uncle Barry, or Uncle Bunny as my kids called you. Still haven't figured out how you didn't age past 18 but your daughter Erica did. You were funny and always good for a laugh. Hard times for your family right now.

My sister and I and a few friends would skip school at lunch time. My sister and I would give him a run for his money before he got the go-cart. And when he did get the go-cart he would catch us and he wouldnt write us up or get us into trouble he would talk to us in a calm voice and tell us what we did wrong but he made sure we made it to our next class. I had trouble in my teens and i was out of control but everytime i got in trouble the school conselor Mrs. Cuevas and Mitch would be right there to calm me down and talk me out of bad decisions. I just have to say my thanks because im a better person now. Thanks for all the advice and chasing us around school. You have inspired and impacted alot of children and people around you. You will truely be missed. My condolences and prayers to Mitch's family just know he will never be forgotten.

I had the pleasure of working with "DEE" as we called him back over 30 years ago at Caldor's Department Store in West Hartford on New Britain Ave. He was a security Guard back then too, he was ALWAYS smiling and brought smiles to everyone's faces. He was a pleasure to be around. Although I haven't seen him in a long time he will be missed and may he rest in peace. Prayers go out to his wife, children and extended family. Keep the memory alive and in your hearts, He will know.

To The Mitchell Family, As I knew him way back in the day from Caldors in West Hartford over 30 years ago, he was a security Guard there as well. He always cheered people up and brought smiles to all. "D" as we called him was a great person with a caring heart. Although we lost touch, he will not be forgotten, maybe he rest in peace and prayers go out to his wife and children and extended family. Keep his memory alive in your hearts.

We share a beautiful life on this earth, your oldest child, Erica. I pray peace for your soul.
My prayers and condolences to your wife and All of your children and your grandchild.
I struggle with your home going. We had so many good years. While our lives went different directions, you always remained a special part of our family. We were all devasted by this news, but elated with the outpour of love for you. Your nieces and nephews still refer to you as 'Uncle Barry' because you continued to have a place in their hearts. On behalf of the Daye and Rice Family, rest peacefully. Sincerely Portia Daye-Rice.

Mitch was an amazing person, who touched many young lives, myself included, while working at MHS. The one thing that stands out the most for me is at 17 years old my father had just passed away, it was almost the end of the year and I was emptying my locker and Mitch saw me, call me over and gave me the best support I could have gotten in that moment with a simple hug, he didn't give me any words of comfort just a hug, that let me know I was still stand and I could and would get through it. I don't think I ever told him how much that truly meant to me. I hope that his family can take comfort with the fact that he was so influential in so many lives.

Mitch, you will be missed but will always be remembered for the marks you left on our hearts. You were not only a security guard at MHS, you were a positive influence on everyone you encountered with, a father, a uncle and friend to students who needed that guidance in their lives. Forever in our heart...never forgotten. Prisella King/Twin c/o 2002

Mitch, You have touched the lives of many at Manchester High school. When we didn't believe in ourselves you did, you showed us that anything is possible. You will be missed very much. You are forever in all of our hearts. Condolences to the family for your loss to such a respectable and loving man.

Mitch, or "D" as Tammy called him, struck me as a gentle giant of a man with a heart of gold. I remember how, when his kids were very young, he would zip home from work every day to have lunch with his family, and his kids would be so thrilled to see him for that 1/2 hour or so. His biggest legacy, even more than the countless lives he touched at the high school, is how well he loved and cared for his wife and children. Our hearts go out to Tammy, Barry II and Samantha.❤❤
