Benjamin DEJOHN Obituary

DEJOHN, Benjamin P.

Benjamin P. DeJohn, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2012. Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife Teresa (DiPersio) DeJohn in 2010. He was born on March 30, 1927 to Charles and Constance DeJohn of Rocky Hill. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ben was a second generation home builder, constructing and remodeling homes throughout the Greater Hartford area. He was proud to pass the knowledge he learned from his own father and Lennart Berg down to a third generation of home builders, his three sons Paul, Benjamin, Jr., and Gene. Ben was widely known for his friendliness, his love of the Red Sox, his love for his daughters-in-law, Ann Marie, Carol and Merilee, and most especially, his grandchildren: Paul, Jr., Michele, Kristin, Mark, Christopher, Ben, Lindsey, and Hope. He also leaves his brothers James, Anthony and Alfred, a sister-in-law Victoria, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ben loved his Terrywood Road and Atria friends. His nickname, the "Mayor", was a source of pride and he fully expected to resume his role upon return from the hospital.

Paul, Gene, and Ben Jr. & Families,

My deepest sympathy at the passing of your dad and my uncle Benny.

He was a great man to all who knew him, and for the numerous people who ever asked me, "are you related to Ben DeJohn, the builder", I always answered with great pride: "yes, he's my uncle!"

May he rest in peace...

Big Ben was a true gentleman and amazing man. The love and pride of his work and family taught me so much that I will always value. May you find comfort in knowing how many lives both he and Terry touched. God Bless you all as you carry on his name.
