Benjamin Matarese Obituary

MATARESE, Benjamin M. Benjamin M. Matarese, 82, of 15 Weber St., East Haven died on October 14, 2009 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He is the husband of Rosina "Dolly" Conte Matarese. Ben was born in New Haven on November 14, 1926 to the late Michael and Laura Cutella Matarese. He worked as a Key Account Executive for the Polar Beverage Company for many years until his retirement in 1970. Prior to that he worked for several local beverage distributors, supplying Pepsi-Cola, Canada Dry and Seven up to the grocery industry. He was a member of Council 1 of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Knights of the Grip. He is also a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Ben M. Matarese, Jr. of Arlington, VA, a daughter Dr. Laura E. Matarese of McMurray, PA, two brothers Michael Matarese of Wallingford and Anthony Matarese of Hamden. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Emilie and Brendan Matarese. Predeceased by a sister Lucy Wilson. Funeral will leave the EAST HAVEN MEMORIAL, 425 Main St., Monday morning at 9 o'clock for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Vincent dePaul Church. Burial with full Military Honors will take place at All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2278, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Sorry about the loss fo Ben. He worked hand and hand with my Dad for years until his death 11 years ago. Never got a chance to meet him, but he seemed like a pleasant Man.

I remember when Ben would come on a sales call at First National/Edwards - it was always so nice to see his smiling face. I am very sad to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Rose and your family. He will be deeply missed.

Benny was a good friend, an icon in the food business that other salesmen
admired over the years. He was one of the most respected and loved individuals in the sales industry.We will all missed him dearly. Our sympathy and prayers are with Rose and the entire Matarese family.
