Sylvia Mae Brown, age 88, of North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the home of her daughter. She was born May 8, 1929 in Wilkes County to William Harrison Call, Sr. and Lula Mae Swaim Call. Mrs. Brown was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a full time wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and "Granny Brown" to any child she was ever around. Mrs. Brown loved gardening, flowers, cooking, collecting glasses and just being there for everybody. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, Charlie Burgess Brown, Jr.; grandson, Larry J. Brown, Jr.; great grandchild, Kasey Meadow King; brothers, Maynard Call, Andrew Call; sister, Bessie Lee Call; and son-in-law, Jerry Wagoner.
Surviving are her sons, Larry J. Brown, Sr. and wife Rosa of Wilkesboro, Paul Brady Brown and wife Kathy of North Wilkesboro, Kenneth R. Brown, Sr. and wife Deborah of Hays, Wayne O. Brown and wife Ruth of North Wilkesboro; daughters, Linda B. Wagoner, Shirley B. Bell and husband R.C. all of North Wilkesboro, Janette B. Swaringen and husband Danny of Millers Creek; brothers, William Harrison Call, Jr., James Call and wife Pauline, Gary Call and wife Doris all of North Wilkesboro; sisters, Callie Chatham and husband Fred of North Wilkesboro, Willie Miller of North Wilkesboro; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty one great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church with Brother Joshua Bell and Pastor Donnie Shumate officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday night. Flowers will be accepted. The family request no food. Memorials may be made to Team Mama's Family Alzheimer's Research, c/o Shirley Bell, 178 Mulberry Mill Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
