Bernice Carr

Bernice Carr, 96 of Bloomfield, CT passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023 surrounded by family. She was born in Bronx, New York to Rose Summer and Jacob Steinberg. Upon graduation she moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked in marketing women's fashions. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Leon for over 73 years. Together they moved to Connecticut and raised their two sons in Bloomfield.

Bernice was an avid horseback rider in her youth and took an early interest in art. Her talent extended to painting and other media. She belonged to the Bloomfield Art Leaue and served on the board for the West Hartford Art league. She had a passion for cooking. Her family will cherish her artwork and recipes for generations to come.

An avid reader, she took pride in her work with the Bloomfield school system where she tutored students in reading. She was an active member of the Beth Hillel Sisterhood, and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and family, with Italy being her favorite location.

She leaves her sons Jeffrey and Zvi Ben Ari (Howard) and daughter-in-law Gila; her chosen sons Allen Goldsher and Scott Johnson; her cherished grandsons Matan and Nadav; nieces Joyce Hermann and Meryl Waldo and nephew Roy Hermann; and her sister-in-law, Miriam Carr. She was pre-deceased by her sister Pearl Hermann. A heartfelt acknowledgement, to Allen who was instrumental in her being able to remain at home the past year.

Graveside services will be held at Beth Hillel Memorial Park Cemetery, 15 Wolcott Road in East Granby on Friday, October 20th at Noon. Shiva will be private. Donations may be made to Connecticut Foodshare. Funeral arrangements provided by Hebrew Funeral Association, West Hartford.
