Carole Gornish Obituary

Carole B. Gornish, 88 years of age, of East Hartford, formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut, died peacefully at home on June 8, 2019. Carole was predeceased by her husband, Sidney, of 58 years. She is survived by her brother, Morris Banks of Wellington, Florida. She leaves two daughters, Leslie Michelle Gornish, also of East Hartford, and Alanna Mrlik of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and her grandchildren, Alexis and Justin, of whom she was so proud. She also leaves her nephews Jeremy Banks (Marcia) and Mitch Banks (Andrea) and great-niece Emma and great-nephews Andrew and Matthew. Carole graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, as Salutatorian, and went on to attend Simmons College, St. Joseph College and Trinity College, earning Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Chemistry, Math and Education. She worked as an Analytical Chemist in New York City before returning to Connecticut. Carole was a lifelong enthusiast of mathematics, going back to school "just for fun" to take Calculus while her daughters were in college, and she followed the markets closely, wisely investing in emerging stock opportunities. Carole was a good driver and is fondly remembered by her children and their friends as a patient teacher of the "stick shift." She was a passionate animal lover, especially of cats. She and her husband traveled frequently to pursue their passion for square dancing with friends, and later on enjoyed many trips to figure skating competitions with her family in the United States and Canada. Carole was also involved in accounting for the family business, Carlton Supply Co., Inc., originally founded by her late father, Charles Banks. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Emanuel Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, Connecticut. The family will receive visitors at 9 Amanda Lane, West Hartford, CT 06117, directly following the service. During the Shiva memorial period from Wednesday, June 12th through Thursday, June 13th the family will receive visitors at 806 Tolland Street, East Hartford, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, with a minyan at 5:00pm on Wednesday, June 12th.
