Catherine Beinhorn Obituary

BEINHORN, Catherine Mary (Carney) Catherine Mary (Carney) Beinhorn lost her valiant struggle in the Weiss Hospice Unit of Middlesex Memorial Hospital on Friday, (June 30, 2006) peacefully with her dear friend at her side. Kay, as she liked to be called, was the widow of Sherman Charles Beinhorn who passed away two years ago. She was also the daughter of Charles E. and Florence (Gubbins) Carney, deceased and the mother of Peter and Stephen Ganaros, deceased. She is the step-mother to Steven and David Beinhorn of Tucson, AZ. To the end, her two care givers, Ewa Bozek and Bozena Gorny, provided friendship and tender attention. As a nurse educated in the three year program at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, she went on to receive a B. S. and a M. S. in marriage and family therapy and, for many years, worked for the State of Connecticut as director of institutional training and staff development officer in the Department of Families. Later, she worked at CVH in drug rehabilitation where she developed an educational program for training nurses' aides. Her involvement in community organizations covered a broad span of interests. She was active with MALC at Middlesex Community College, the Eastern Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, the Emblem Club, Hadassah, the Senior Affairs Commission and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program's "Project Meds." Kay Produced and hosted a cable television public access program called "Senority." She was honored with the 1999 Sword of Hope Award by the American Cancer Society for a show she produced called "Look Good, Feel Better" which highlighted the effects of cancer and what an individual can do about taking back control of her/his life. At Kay's request, there will be no calling hours. The Rev. Dr. Mary Klaaren from South Congregational Church will hold a simple graveside service for friends at Rose Hill Memorial Park, section 24, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, CT on Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Middlesex YMCA, 99 Union St., Middletown, CT 06457 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
