JENKINS, (Callie) Catherine
Mrs. (Callie) Catherine H. Jenkins passed away from this life to the next, Thursday, (September 1, 2011) at her residence in Albany, GA, she was 85. Callie attended elementary school in Manchester, CT. She went on to attend and graduate from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, as well as, graduate with a Master of Education Degree from Harvard University, Boston, MA. Catherine was employed by the Board of Education of Manchester, CT as a teacher and counselor. She was employed by the United States Department of Education for the Office for the Office of Civil Rights as a Regional Monitor for Minority Equal Rights & Opportunities. She was formerly employed by Connecticut General Life Insurance (CIGNA) Cooperate Social Responsibility Office as a Program Manager for workforce development and by Aetna Life Insurance as a Program Administer for Inner City Outreach Programs. Catherine was appointed to the Board of Trustees for Regional Community Colleges of Connecticut by the late former Governor (Mrs. Ella Grasso). Born May 26, 1926 in Manchester, Ct, the eldest of seven children to the late Ida Mae Leonard and Richmond Hogg. She met and married Oliver C. Jenkins, Sr., who preceded in death as did their son Oliver C. Jenkins, Jr. To cherish her memory Callie (Catherine) leaves four daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Mallard, Albany, GA, Mrs. Diane Cheerier, Hartford, CT, Mrs. Tracy Curtis (Alan) Raritan, NJ, Mrs. Bridgette Gossett (Jack) Fairburn, OH, and two sons, Mr. Robert Houston, Hartford, CT, and Mr. Roy Gardner, Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Mrs. Rose Woodson, Hartford, CT and one brother, Mr. Clarence Hogg, Hartford, CT. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; siblings, Richmond Hogg, Jr., Dorothy L. Folkes, Alyce Joyner and Andrew Hogg, preceded her in death. Catherine was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, an avid crafter specializing in knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and hand-made quilts. She was a founding member and President of the Afro-American Social Club, an original member of the Jordan Choir, Hopewell Baptist Church and a Brownie Girl-Scout leader in Manchester, CT.
Callie's (Catherine's) home-going service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, (September 12, 2011) at Hopewell Baptist Church, Windsor, CT, with burial at East Cemetery in Manchester, CT. The service will be conducted by Rev. David L. Massey.

Cheryl, The passing of (Catherine)as you and I lovingly called her, behind her back. Your mom has always been special to us. We enjoyed visiting with the two of you in Albany, wished we had visited more. We will miss her. I'll miss the big hug she always had for me when ever she saw me. Tim and I are praying for you and your family. We'll see you when you get home.
