Catherine Osiecki Obituary

Catherine R. Osiecki, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Her legacy of love includes her husband Robert Osiecki of Portland, her son and daughter and their families: Michael & Eleni Ozga (Middletown, CT) and Stefanie Ozga-Fenton & Patrick Fenton (Middletown, CT). She adored her two granddaughters Jillian and Eleanor more than anything and cherished being their grandmother. She was predeceased by her Carroll brothers Jack, Jim, Tom, and Bill and in addition her loving brother-in-law, Michael Osiecki. She is survived by her remaining siblings MaryFrances Alonzo (Plantsville, CT), Patricia (Kon) Petrochuk (Columbus, OH), Susan (Dennis) Grasso (Las Vegas, NV) and her remaining brothers Robert and Peter. Cathie's memory of love and kindness will also be forever remembered by her sister-in-law Janet and her husband John Milardo (Bluffton, SC), and brother-in-law Theodore and his wife Terri Osiecki (Chatham, MA). Catherine Rose Carroll was born and raised in Waterbury, CT, one of 10 children of John F. and Patricia (Scionti) Carroll. Cathie attended Crosby High School and went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Education, SCSU with an M.S. in Education as well as serving as a PIMMS Fellow of Wesleyan University. She thoroughly enjoyed her work as a beloved teacher impacting countless lives of students and their families as well as her colleagues. She later became the K-6 Math Coordinator for the Middletown Board of Education and finished her career as a consultant for the BEST Program for the Connecticut State Department of Education. Cathie was a generous and caring person who selflessly gave of her time and her wisdom to anyone who needed help. Her sense of humor was impeccable. She will be missed and dearly loved all the days of our lives. One of her favorite quotes that she taught her children was a mantra that Cathie lived her life by: "And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make". A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 26th at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Portland. Friends may call at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St, Portland, on Friday, November 25th from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be private.

I was so saddened to learn of Cathie´s passing.
I first met Cathie as a teacher of my sons, later as a colleague.
She was both an outstanding teacher and a spectacular person.
We felt so fortunate to have had her as a first grade teacher for both my sons. She was a well-regarded, talented teacher, and she just had a very special way about her. She had a way of making everyone feel they mattered. What a gift!
I know she will be deeply missed by many.
My deepest sympathies to her family.

Dear Bob, Michael and Stefanie,
My deepest sympathy for the loss of Cathie. I first met and worked under her wings as a student teacher in 1971, and then throughout the years as a Middletown colleague. Cathie was the epitome of a dedicated master teacher. She shared her wisdom, patience, humility, gentleness and kindness wherever she went. I admired her as my son´s first grade teacher and her work as a math coach. Cathie made us feel special in every conversation, which always led back to her family and her love for them. May her light continue to shine on all who loved her.

Mrs. Osiecki was my 1st grade teacher at Lawrence school in 1987-1988. She instilled in me a love of learning and a desire to be a teacher, which stuck with me. In 2007 I was hired by the Middletown School district to work as an elementary teacher at Lawrence School. Mrs. Osiecki was part of the interview panel. I was asked which teacher made the most impact in my life at the interview and I was honored to say she was right there in the room. I have now worked at my childhood school, Lawrence, for the past 17 years. It is because of Mrs. Osiecki that I am a teacher. I wish all her family and friends comfort in their memories of her.

I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Mrs. Osiecki at Spencer School twice during my teaching career. The first position was as a college student when I came to observe and learn from a mentor teacher. I learned so much from Mrs. Osiecki that semester and truly enjoyed my time with her in first grade. The second opportunity was when I was a student teacher in Carol Lassonde's second grade class at Spencer. Although I wasn't placed in Mrs. Osiecki's classroom, she always treated me with respect as a student teacher and was always willing to help me out. Whenever I would visit Spencer School, I could count on her to always have a smile and sweet words for me. I remember when I was in her classroom, how proud she was of her children. She mentioned them a lot and her face always lit up when she did. I am truly sorry for the loss of Mrs. Osiecki. I am a better teacher because of her and feel so blessed that I could call her my mentor and friend. With my deepest sympathy and prayers to her entire family.
Sincerely,
