Charles ANDREW Obituary

ANDREW, Charles G. Sr. Charles G. Andrew, Sr., of West Hartford, CT, beloved husband of Ann Menary Andrew passed away peacefully on Saturday (November 28, 2009) at St. Mary Home. He was born and raised in Lakewood, OH the youngest son of the late Dudley and Anna (Grebe) Andrew. He was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius Jesuit High School, Cleveland, OH. Charlie received his BS from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from The Wharton School of Business. Upon graduation, he began his professional career at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell one of the Big 8 CPA firms as a management consultant. While working in New York City he met his future wife, Ann, and they were married in 1961. In 1964 he accepted a position as Manufacturing Manager for Superior Electric and moved to West Hartford, CT. In 1976, he became a Professor of Management within The Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford. Charlie also led the Production Management segment of the University's Executive MBA Program. In 1980 he fulfilled his lifelong dream of establishing his own consulting firm. It grew into a successful international business with clients throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Charlie went on to author over 50 papers and articles for professional journals and was recognized as an authority on Japanese and Western World management practices and implementation strategies. Charlie and Ann spent many happy years raising their four children in West Hartford. During those years, Charlie was a devoted parishioner of The Church of St. Timothy. He was a believer in positive thinking and that there was nothing you could not accomplish. Charlie was a caring father to each of his children providing guidance and encouragement taking great pride in each of their achievements. He and Ann traveled the world creating many lasting memories. Charlie had a passion for jogging and walking particularly at Reservoir 6 and treasured the friendships he made there. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children; Charles (Chuck) and his wife, Linda of West Hartford; Maribeth and her husband John Canning of Augusta, ME; Kathleen (Katie) and her husband Mark Mansur of Canton, CT; and Theresa and her husband Matthew Smith of Exeter, NH; eight grandchildren, Katherine and Allison Andrew; John and Garrett Canning; Jack and Logan Mansur; Megan and Ryan Smith. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Andrew of Solana Beach, CA along with many nieces, nephews and longtime friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Rose Ellen McGlynn, Geraldine Rose, and brother James. The family extends to the staff of St. Mary Home, Fitzgerald Unit and Masonicare Hospice Team their gratitude for the compassion and care given to Charlie. Calling hours are Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT from 4-7 p.m. Friends are invited to join Charlie's family at the celebration of his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Timothy 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CT Chapter of The Alzheimer's Association, 279 New Britain Rd., Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037 or St. Timothy's Middle School, 225 King Philip Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117.
