Charles Taylor Obituary

After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, Charles (Charlie) Walter Taylor of Hazardville, CT, 68, passed with his wife, Brenda, at his side Monday, March 23, 2015. Charlie was born in Lynn, MA on February 15, 1947 to Janina Agnieszka Genowefa (Gill) Taylor of Simsbury and the late Everett Archer Taylor. Charlie will be deeply missed by his wife, Brenda Zetta Taylor and children: daughter, Janna E. Taylor (Chris) and grandsons, Logan and Dallas of Hazardville, CT; daughter, Zetta T. Fogg and grandchildren, Drew and Peyton of Orrington, ME and son, Jorgen C. Taylor (wife-Melissa) and grandchildren, Caiden and Madison of Suffield, CT. Charlie is also survived by his brother, Ronald Taylor of Huntington, CT, brother-in-law, Eric KT Hansen (Melanie) of Sutton, VT and sister-in-law, Kren Hansen (John) of Buels Gore, VT as well as his nieces and nephews, Lindsay, William, Inger, Josh, Harmony and Ade. Charlie graduated from Bloomfield High School (1965) and lived as a child in Cincinnati, OH, Long Island and Maryland. As a young teen, in the 60's Charlie became extremely interested in folk music and learned how to play the banjo. This was the beginning of his love of music. He learned to play the banjo, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass. His love of music was who he was throughout his whole life and he passed this on to his children. Charlie gave up his "regular" job in the 60's & 70's and went on the road as a musician - playing with bands such as Fleet Street, the Destined Few, Jimmy Joyce and the Dawn and later with the OBG Express. By 1976 it was time for Charlie to give up music on a full-time basis and get a "regular" job. Charlie worked for Veeder-Root Company in Hartford and then later in Simsbury, CT for 39 years ending his career as a Tech Support Rep. In the 39 years Charlie was with Veeder-Root he worked in several positions which gave him the knowledge of the many Veeder-Root products. He was the "go to guy" and highly respected by his co-workers. Besides music Charlie had other interests - model railroads which he had built since childhood and still could spend hours reading model railroad magazines. He loved photography and had for a time his own darkroom and loved processing his own pictures. One of Charlie's greatest joys was spending countless hours at the kitchen table building LEGO sets with his grandchildren. Another huge part of Charlie's life was being "Dad" to our international family which began in 1985 and continued to his passing. Sweden: Madeleine Blusi (Hakan) grandchildren, Sofia, Lisa and Karl; Finland/Florida: Aki Polvikoski (Jessica ) grandchildren: Mikko and Matti, Finland: Tuula Kesti; United Kingdom/Germany: Anja Sonksen Batista (Antonio) grandchildren: Frederik and Henriette, and Denmark: Sune Nielsen (Pernille) grandchildren: Klara and Silja. Charlie was known as a caring, gentle man and a friend to all who knew him. He will be forever missed by his loving wife, children and his many friends. The family would like to thank the Colorectal Surgeons and staff at St Francis Hospital and the staff at Smilow Oncology Hospital (Yale University) for their dedication and commitment to Charlie's care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles W. Taylor Music Scholarship Fund for an Enrico Fermi HS student who will be continuing his/her education in the field of music. Send donations to: American Eagle Federal Credit Union, 201 Elm Street, Enfield, CT 06082. Charlie's family will receive family and friends on Saturday, April 11th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm.
