We are heartbroken to announce that Christopher J. Mefferd passed away on 11/8/2022. Christopher leaves behind his wife Kellee, daughters Sydney and Piper, mother and stepfather Gail and John Benker, sister Melissa, grandmother Mabel Marshall, and many close friends and relatives, all whom he loved and cherished dearly. Chris was preceded in death by his father Jeffery Mefferd and grandfather Truman Marshall. Chris grew up in Middletown, Connecticut where he attended Xavier High School graduating in the class of 1988. He attended Western Connecticut State University where he studied criminal justice which let to his 21-year career as a Hartford Police Officer where he achieved the rank of lieutenant. Following his retirement from Hartford PD, Chris joined the East Hartford PD, where he served for 5 years before starting a successful business. Chris was an avid runner and enjoyed golf and skiing. He loved the beach, especially trips to Block Island. Chris had an extremely big heart and his sunshiny, cheerful personality was contagious to everyone he met. Friends and family all agree that they were extremely lucky to have had Chris in their lives and his smile will be missed. A memorial service to celebrate Chris' life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday November 18th , at the VFW, 3272 Main St, Rocky Hill CT.

I am just finding out about Chris passing and I am so sorry to hear this.....I dealt with Chris over the past years with his business insurance and had numerous conversations, a very nice guy....So sorry for the Mefferd' s family loss ....to young to soon! Monica

I was a few years older than Chris and his sister, but we did all play together at times , in winter time snow tunnels in the piles the plow left, i remember back then he was approx 6 to 10 years old and he was kind of shy then but that was ok too. It was nice to see him relax and open up a little as we got to know him, when your from that neighborhood we cant help but to all feel like family. I send everyone my Love .

Missy, Gail, Kellee and Family, I wish I could take away the pain you all feel and please know that you're not alone. All of us that were close to Chris feel it as well. Lots of memories and all of them good growing up with him down the street. I feel lucky to have known him. I'll miss his company, his heart and his spirit. He helped me get through some tough losses in my life and I'll be forever grateful to him for that. Thanks for being a good friend and a good influence on me. I remember when we used to climb the same trees. He would always climb higher than me and I have this image that keeps coming up in my mind of him swinging the tree up high and laughing while I was beneath him freaking out and holding on tight. That's how I imagine him up in Heaven right now.
