Its been a year to the date...its so hard, I don't know whether to be happy because its my best friends birthday or be upset because you passed away a year ago. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and wonder if you are looking down on us. You were always there for me and I will never forget that! You were one of my best friends when I was in high school. Everyone has that one person that they feel comfortable talking to...and that person for me was YOU! Thank you for keeping me out of trouble and watch over us! Make sure we are all safe! I love you Ofc. McDermott. I miss you!

McDermott, I wish you were still here, I could use your comfort more then ever right now! I miss you so much! You were one of my best friends. Someone I could always talk to, no matter the situation...I dont have anyone like that anymore, really! It's kind of sad. I can't believe you are gone, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and all that you have done for me! I love you so much!

I am still sad everytime I think of Ciara. I miss her dearly. She was beautiful on the inside and out. Our talks were refreshing and I was always excited to see her. For the last year she had been on my mind, probably because we lost contact and I never saw her anymore. I also missed Maria too. They were both in my heart. They still are. I love them both. Warmth and love to the entire family.

Ciara was an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to have ever crossed her path. Not only was she selfless and beautiful, but she was one of the brightest people I have ever met. My deepest sympathy goes out to all family and friends. Maria, Door, and Marita..you are all wonderful people and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'll never forget all the wonderful childhood memories that you have given me. You are the most open, kind-hearted family. Just want you to know that I am here for all of you during this awful time.

January 24, 2006

Not a day goes by that you are not in my thoughts...im done with school now and if you could see me cross the stage that would be better than reciving my diploma. The day before you left us , i saw you walk out the school with a smile on your face...that was usually what you did everytime you left. I hope you are looking down on us smiling and everytime the sun shines i will know its you with your beautiful smile helping us all get through another day...

To the Mcdermott Family,

I was blessed in my life to have known Ciara.

She was a wonderful friend and an incredible cook. Ciara will always be remembered for her smile and her even bigger heart. Ciara always taught me to breath, through the rough times. I will continue to miss her as well as her family and friends.

I do believe she is with the angels now watching over us.

To the McDermott Family and Newington Police Department:

Words are so hard to find to express our sympathy for your loss of such a beautiful daughter and fellow officer. As a Newington resident I would see Ciara driving around town and would admire how beautiful she was and from all the entries i have read she was a beautiful person inside too. As a mother of a fellow East Hartford police officer i know the worry we as parents have at all times. As a matter of fact, my son had Mr. McDermott at the Policy Academy for training a few years back. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss and please know that this tragedy has affected so many people. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. May God Bless you and give you strength to get through this.

Officer McDermott was the most compassionate woman I have ever known. Im a 2003 graduate from newington high school. If it wasn't for her i would have never made it out of school. She was like a mentor to me. She wrote me a quote "We are about as happy as we make up our minds to be." she wrote that to me in my junior year of high shcool. I keep it in a picture frame which is always right next to me. officer mcdermott is very loved and as much as well missed. She is now my guardian angel. I will never forget her. My deepest regards to the her family. OFFICER MCDERMOTT THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR ME...I LOVE YOU AND I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU..RIP

My sister was one of her best friends and I have many fond memories of the two of them growing up. I have seen Ciara go from that little girl to a beautiful, intelligent woman. My heart goes out to you and your family during this tragic time. As I have already expressed to you, Ciara will live on forever in our hearts and in our family as well as yours. She will be missed deeply.

To the McDermott Family - the many times I would see Ciara in town I would roll down my window to say hello to her, she would turn around with that wonderful smile and chat with me for a second or two or during the summer she would come through Churchill Park during softball games, I would wave at her and she would always stop and say hello and we would chat then too. She always had a minute or two for anyone and before you knew it everyone would gather around just to say hello to her. I'll miss seeing you and chatting with you in town and at the park. You will be missed greatly by us but never forgotten in our hearts. Rest in peace Ciara.

It is hard for any words to help you in this time need, just to have had Ciara been part of your family is a blessing in itself which will live on forever.

To the McDermott Family:

I was stunned to hear the tragic news about Ciara. Since graduating from Fairfield, I have followed her career through the papers and friends. I was extremely happy to have had the opportunity to see her again a few years ago and catch up. You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

I remember meeting Ciara several years ago while working as a temp at a company in Berlin. We chatted about many things over a period of a few days, and during our brief time together, she shared with me her dreams of one day becoming a police officer. She was friendly, charasmatic, and a person whom I would remember for a long time. Although I was delighted to hear that she pursued her dream which proved to be successful and fulfilling I am still shocked and devastated over this horrible tradgedy. Dear McDermott Family:

I still cannot place into words my reaction to the tragic loss of Officer Ciara McDermott. Upon hearing of her death the world lost a wonderful woman. It is with my sincere condolences and most deepest sympathy that I give to the entire McDermott family. Officer McDermott was a great young woman, dedicated to life and helping everyone in every way possible. Her smile was like that of a beautiful sunny day. We have lost a warm-hearted, compassionate, courageous, wonderful person. I graduated from NHS just last year. It was so great seeing officer McDermott last Friday when I went to visit at the high school. We would always talk to each other, saying hello and seeing how things were. I would like both the family as well as herself to know that it truly was a blessing to know such a woman as her. Ciara McDermott, You will be deeply missed by myself as well as everyone who was so very fortunate to know you. You will always live on in my memories, and in my heart. You are with God and the Angels now, in a better place. We all love you and miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Ciara McDermott.

Officer McDermott had an opportunity to help our family a few years back. The lasting impression she made upon our family , especially our son, will never be forgotten. Even prior to her tragic death we never took for granted how she helped our son. She was a Police Officer, but, first and foremost was a compassionate, gentle spoken , caring , considerate person. And that's how she treated our family as well as treating us with dignity. Our experience with her was a "bookmark" in our lives and thanks to her our son was able to turn his life around. I don't believe that we would have seen the same outcome had it not been for her compassion and burning desire to help our son. I can only imagine that there are many other families in Newington that had similar experiences with Officer McDermott. It is overwhelming sad that a woman who treated people with dignity would have that taken away from her at her hour of death. I have no doubt she is in heaven and will be NHS's angel. Our entire family is saddened by this and will keep Ciara in our prayers. I am so very sorry that all that were personally close to her have this burden on their hearts. God Bless you all and help you deal with this tragedy. There are no magic words to speak to help you if there were I'd say them and so would many others. Hold onto each other and let time pass and hopefully your days will get better... Fondly , The Corning's

To the McDermott Family:

You have lost an ANGEL. Society has lost has an ANGEL. Just reading the words from the people whose lives Ciara touched brings sadness to my heart. At some point during the celebration of this young ladies AMAZING life you will think of the lives she has touched and affected. It will ease the sorrow a bit during the time you grieve. Those who were lucky enough to experience this ANGEL'S compassion, caring and love will be affected forever, and I believe, just from reading their words, that they will pass along those qualities to people in need.

I pray that your loss is lessened with the memories, lessons and thoughtfulness she gave to so many. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I consider myself truly blessed to have known Ciara. She was an amazing woman who touched the hearts of so many people. Ciara will be remembered as a caring, thoughtful, sensitive and incredible individual. She was a smiling face who always found the best in everyone. I will always remember the wonderful moments that we shared during our time at Fairfield University. Ciara was a tremendous person who will remain in my heart and memories forever. My prayers and sympathies go out to your family.
