Clare Philips Obituary

One of the kindest and gentlest souls ever to grace this life, Clare Marie Philips, of Hartford, passed away on June 3 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Clare was born in Trumbull, CT, and was a lifelong resident of the state. A gifted artist, lover of animals, and wonderful wife and mother, Clare leaves her loving husband of more than 42 years, David Kulle, her daughter, Kira Philips, whom she adored with all her heart, and beloved pets Banana, Holly, Fin and Minke. A former art director and graphic designer, and a member of Connecticut Women Artists, Clare's work was featured in numerous shows in Connecticut and on Cape Cod. A friend to all animals, she was a passionate and generous supporter of many animal welfare organizations. Special thanks go to Clare's "extended family"-Kim McClain and Brian Smith, Kathy Kraines, Donna Flagg, Marilyn Beardslee, and Clare's "painting buddies"-for their years of devoted friendship and support. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service to honor Clare will be held at a later date. Contributions in Clare's memory can be made to the non-profits Farm Sanctuary or the West Hartford Art League. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com

I am so sorry for your loss David, Kira and family. I wanted to let you know that I was very fortunate to have met Clare a few times as she volunteered to help me with our graphics projects for the CT Women Artists. Clare was juried in as a new member a couple of years ago while I was their President. She was very happy to help me design our postcards and program covers for our two art shows that year. She was a talented graphic artist, as well as a wonderful fine artist.
We stopped working together as she was going through her regimen to fight Cancer. I was sorry to hear that, but later she let me know that she was back helping the West Hartford Art League with their graphics, which kept her very busy.
She was very kind, talented and always willing to help. I only wish I had known her longer.
God bless you all as you continue on, remembering all of your special memories together.
Her fellow artist and friend,
Linda Boisvert DeStefanis

Miss Clare or Clare Clare as I would call her was a very sweet person towards me. She was truly one of one, very kind indeed. I will miss our friendship and all the talks we had. I will never forget you Miss Clare and will cherish the painting you gifted me forever. Keep watch over your family especially Kira, guide and protect her always. Keep strong David, all my condolences
