Cynthia Fogle Obituary

Cynthia Joan Fogle, 56, of Lyme passed away on November 6, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital. Mrs. Fogle was born on September 2, 1958 in Norwich, CT to William C. and Eleanor B. Harding, the youngest of six siblings. In her youth Cindy loved to ride her horses. She and her friends rode their horses all around Norwichtown and Baltic. She also showed her excellent riding skills at various fairs in eastern Connecticut. As an adult she loved driving her Jeeps - 2 CJ-7s and a Cherokee, both on roads and off. In 1988, after living in the Mansfield area since her college days at UConn, Cindy and Gifford moved into her grandparent's old home in the town of Lyme. Cindy had deep roots in the town as her father's side of the family helped establish the town in the 1600s and her ancestors have lived there ever since. In 1990 they married on the front lawn of the house. In Lyme Cindy and Giff got very deeply and energetically into organic gardening. She loved canning, pickling, and preserving the larder from their gardens. This interest led to her eventual involvement in the Lyme Grange and the Hamburg Agricultural Fair, where she held various and numerous positions. She worked extensively on the Hamburg Fair Book, bringing it from the cave man technology of cut and paste with paper, scissors and glue into the digital age of cut and paste with a computer mouse; in the process winning 1st prize awards for the Fair Book for its design quality. Cindy was a member of the Lyme Congregational Church and the Lyme Land Conservation Trust. After her children were born, she became involved as a leader in the Lyme Cub Scout Pack # 32. Cindy was a great appreciator of music and supporter of Jazz festivals in Connecticut. She loved New Orleans style jazz, the blues, and the rock and roll of her youth. Her favorite artists were The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Muddy Waters, The Grateful Dead, and Lou Reed. Cindy is survived by her husband, Gifford Fogle; sons, Billy Clyde and Jay Ralph; mother, Eleanor Conary; step-mother Lillian B. Harding; brothers, Will and Tom Harding; sisters: Judith Hamblen, Carol Kelleher, Linda Warriner; step-brother Peter Skolem; step-sister Kathy Fitch; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Cindy's life will be held on November 22, 2014 in Lyme Congregational Church, Lyme, CT at 2 P.M. Please wear Hawaiian shirts/skirts if you've got them. Grass skirt is OK too, if you dare. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or to the Lyme Grange. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
