Cynthia Williams Obituary

Cynthia "Grace" Williams, 72, of Hartford, wife of Trevor Alvinston Williams, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Free Hill, St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies on March 19, 1947, daughter of the late Austin Carter and Cotilda(Brown) Jones, she was raised in Jamaica and migrated to the United States when she was 26 years old. Cynthia worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) for most of her career and retired from Mediplex of Wethersfield in 2010 after over 30 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering at FoodShare in Bloomfield, cooking for her family and friends, and spending time with her family. Cynthia was always the light-hearted comedian in her family and could be very sarcastic with her quick comebacks no matter what someone said. This outgoing personality was coupled with a caring, selfless, loving heart which Cynthia shared with everyone. Most of all, she will be remembered as the caregiver of her family who loved everyone unconditionally. She was a longtime member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Hartford where she took part in many missions and functions within the life of the church. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing, five children, Trevor Williams of Trelawny, Jamaica, Georgia Lawrence and her husband Andrew of Windsor, Claudia James and her husband Randolf of Bloomfield, Everal O. Williams and his wife Dawn of Meriden, and Craig A. Williams and his wife Lisa of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Naddeen McKenzie, Nikaylia Lawrence, both of Windsor , Raheem James and Kanesha James both of Bloomfield, Domonique Williams and Destini Williams both of Meriden, and Craig J. Williams and Kylie Grace Williams of Bloomfield, five step grandchildren, seven brothers and sisters, Adassa Marshall of Hartford, Vanda Dunn of Hartford, Harold "Keith" Watson of Trelawny, Jamaica, Barbara Pottinger-Chambers of Windsor, Pauline O'Garro of Enfield, Lawrence Jones, and his wife Emily of Bloomfield, and Arthur Carter of St. Mary Jamaica; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Her family will receive friends on Friday, April 26, 6-8 p.m., at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 290 Cornwall St., Hartford and on Saturday, April 27, 9-10 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 290 Cornwall Street, Hartford, CT 06112 in honor of Cynthia Williams. The family has entrusted the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home with the arrangements. For online condolences please visit, www.carmonfuneralhome.com.

To: Naddeen, Georgia, Mr. Williams, and the rest of the family of Mrs. "Gracie" Williams - It is with a heavy heart that I express my sincere sympathy to you. The loss of a loved one is never easy, but losing such a stellar individual is even more difficult. Based on all the anecdotal account that I have had about Mrs. Gracie, the world has loss a beautiful soul, She was an awesome grandmother, a great mom, a loyal and devoted wife, and an overall outstanding person. There were no boundaries to her love for family and her kindness. One could never feel ill at ease around her. My story is that I only met her once that I can remember. Her reputation far surpasses geographical and familial boundaries. She made everyone who came in contact with her felt just a little better about him or herself. Though words my not provide comfort, especially in these difficult times, may you find solace in the wonderful memories of her life. May she Rest in Peace!

In Sympathy,
C. Lloyd McKenzie
