D. DAVIES Obituary

DAVIES, D. Peter D. Peter Davies, 72, of Bloomfield and formerly of Simsbury, beloved husband of Valerie Morgan Davies, died on May 6th. Born in Llanelli, South Wales, son of the late Glanville Rhys and Violet Margaretta Davies, Peter attended Swansea University before heading to Surry, England where he worked as an electrical engineer. In 1968, Peter moved to Hartford, CT after being recruited from London, England, by Northeast Utilities and quickly made his mark on the Hartford area. In 1975, Peter joined Combustion Engineering and survived many company changes in ownership until he retired in 2004. During his service with Combustion, Peter traveled the world making life long connections and friendships. In 1971, his lifelong passion for golf led him to become President of the Greater Hartford Jaycees. In 1973, Peter became Co-Chairman of the Greater Hartford Open (now known as the Travelers Championship). He was later elected as a Jaycee International Senator in recognition of his many years of dedicated service. When not traveling for business or home with his girls, you could find Peter at Wampanoag Country Club, his home away from home. His high level of involvement at Wampanoag led him to Club Presidency during the years of 1996-98. Besides his wife Valerie, he is survived by his daughters, Meghann Cahill and her husband Ben and Sara Davies, wonderful brother to older sister, Barbara and brother-in-law, John Williams, and younger sister, Christine, and brother-in-law, Ian Hooker, adoring grandfather to Eleanor Grace Cahill (2), uncle to Jonathon Williams, Jane Hodgson, Timothy and Andrew Parker, and great uncle to Louisa, Catherine, and Mariella. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday (May 10) at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Donations may be sent in Peter's name to the American Parkinson Disease Association: Connecticut Chapter/ APDA, 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc.

We know so well that there is little to be said at a time like this to lessen the terrible loss you feel. However, we want you to know that you will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers in the days, and weeks ahead. God bless you all.

Valerie, we just learned of Peter's passing. It's obviously difficult for words alone to provide comfort but we try. When we think of Peter, the word gentleman always comes to mind. Unfortunately, we hear that word used so sparingly these days, especially as a true compliment in describing a man. It is as if being a gentleman is no longer to be aspired to. How absolutely sad. The world is in dire need of true gentleman and unfortunately with Peter's passing we all lost one of the genuine articles. We were all blessed to have known him. You and your family are in our prayers.

Peter was one of the first people I worked with when I started at HELCo 41 years ago. Although he had only been here a year he had already made his mark and a wonderful reputation. It's been many years since I've seen him but I think of him often. God bless all of you in this time of sorrow. Celebrate him.

Valerie,
My condolences to you and your family. As you know, my father and Peter worked together for many years and shared many good times on and off the golf course. They are probably teeing it up now.
