David CLARK Obituary

David Taylor Clark, beloved husband of Janet Hooker Butler of West Hartford, died on April 22, 2021 at the age of 85. He was the son of Breckenridge Tomkins Clark, Sr. and Alice Taylor Clark, both deceased and formerly of Evanston, IL. David was brought up in Danielson, CT, attending The Rectory School in Pomfret, CT, followed by Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. David attended Colby College in Waterville, ME where he met his wife in 1953. David then spent two years in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Bliss, TX and at White Sands Proving Ground, NM. He completed his Bachelors degree in Business Administration at Bryant College, Providence, RI. Mr. Clark served as Executive V.P. of Connecticut Plywood Corporation in West Hartford for 28 years until the company was sold in 1985. Mr. Clark then took two years to pursue one of his passions: writing. In 1987 Mr. Clark founded Belmont Corporation in Bristol, CT, operating under the trade name Village Cabinets. Mr. Clark served as CEO and Board Chairman of Belmont Corporation until he retired in 1998, growing the company to sixty employees. Since 1959 the Clark family has lived in West Hartford, Farmington, and Avon, also spending summers at Old Kelsey Point, Westbrook, CT. After his retirement, Mr. Clark maintained woodworking shops at both his winter home and at Old Kelsey Point where he spent many happy hours carving award winning bird sculptures. Mr. Clark was an avid sailor, piano player, published writer, bird carver, and was a past member of The Old Guard of West Hartford. He and his wife Janet were enthusiastic travelers and theater lovers. Mr. Clark leaves his wife of over 63 years. He also leaves a daughter, Lauren Avery Hutton & her husband Peter Hutton of Ipswich, MA, granddaughter Julia Avery Hutton of New York City, NY, granddaughter Samantha Grace Clark Gammie & husband Judd Gammie, and great granddaughter Penelope Grace Gammie of West Hartford. His son Bruce Livingston Clark passed away in 2019. Numerous nieces and nephews live around the country. David's older brother Robert Stuart Clark of East Berlin, CT passed in 1998. His younger brother Breckinridge Tomkins Clark, Jr lives in New Jersey. A private interment service was held in May by the immediate family due to Covid. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Audubon Society or Salvation Army.

Laurie,
I am so sorry to hear about the death of your father. He seemed to live a very rich life doing the things that he loved the most - being with family, sailing, writing, building, and enjoying nature. I know you will carry him in your head and heart forever. I am thinking of you.
