David Hovey Obituary

David H. "Davey" Hovey, III, 26, of Boston, died Monday, February 6, 2017 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He was born September 23, 1990 in Littleton, CO, the beloved son of David H. Hovey, Jr. and Leigh (Armstrong) Hovey of Simsbury, CT and Chatham, MA. He was a graduate of Westminster School in Simsbury, Class of 2009, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from St. Lawrence University, Class of 2013. After moving to Boston, Davey began his dream job as a Marketing Manager for Arnold Worldwide working on the Titleist account. Davey was a talented athlete playing soccer, hockey and lacrosse at Westminster and was named captain of the lacrosse team at St. Lawrence. After graduation from college, Davey became an avid golfer and could be found on the course, usually with his brother, in any type of weather. Chatham, MA was a very special place to Davey. He enjoyed summers playing golf at Eastward Ho!, tennis at Chatham Beach & Tennis Club, and spending time with friends and family both on the beach and at the Chatham Squire. After he was diagnosed with cancer, he took the fight to the golf course with grit & grace, playing in a 100-hole golf tournament and raising over $133,500 for glioblastoma research. He never gave up on his personal fight with cancer and he was determined to help others with theirs as well. He was goof ball in the best way; fun-loving, energetic and made everyone's lives brighter. His friends from St. Lawrence, Chatham, Westminster and Simsbury are in the thousands. He was so lucky to have a vast network of support during his fight. The Hoveys would like express their appreciation for everyone's support during this 16-month battle. The meals, notecards, videos, calls, visits and gifts lifted their spirits more than you could imagine. The family would also like to thank the amazing team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital for their care and support. In addition, sincere thanks to the Nurses and Doctors at Hartford Hospital on North 9, who made Davey's last weeks as comfortable as possible. In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Tom Hovey of Boston, MA; his sister, Katie Hovey of Simsbury; his aunt, Kim Hovey of New York City; his uncle and aunt, Sam and Romi Hovey and cousins Grayson and Landon of Denver, CO; his uncle and aunt, Kipp and Tricia Armstrong and cousins Cassidy, Magnolia and Levi of Northampton, MA. He was predeceased by his grandparents, David and Mary-Jenks Hovey and John and Kathy Armstrong. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 13th at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Golf Fights Cancer - CrushTour Boston Marathon Team, 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02766 or at https://www.crowdrise.com/teamgfcboston2017/fundraiser. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Davey's "Book of Memories" at www.vincetfuneralhome.com for online condolences.

To all the Hoveys, My heart grieves with you at the loss of Dave, III. While I never had the pleasure of meeting him, he sounds like an amazing young man who accomplished so much during his (too) short years. No doubt his many efforts and selfless contributions are a legacy he leaves behind for others to follow, and this you can hold dear in your heart forever. Love is never silenced, and never lost, and so he will always be with you in your heart of hearts. May you find comfort in this reassurance. With much love, Debbie Lindegren

I never had the joy of meeting Davey, but from listening to Kim talk about him, I know he was a very special person. My heart goes out to all of you on his passing, which was way way too soon. I am betting from what I have heard about him and read here, that there will be some wonderful memories shared in the days ahead. May they make you smile and bring some comfort as you celebrate his all too short life where he clearly made an impact on many, many lives. I still marvel at the golf championship that he played this summer and I loved the tribute that he was given by the pro golfers on the tour.

Dear Leigh, Dave and family,
How sad we were to hear of Davey's passing. Our memories go back to your move onto Winterset Lane when the children could often be seen playing on the front lawn of your lovely home. How fortunate I was to see them grow and eventually attend Westminster School where Davey enjoyed his friends, teachers, and teammates. There are few words to comfort all of you at this time, therefore we will pray for you and hope that the memories of Davey's life will be of constant comfort you now and always.
