There is a Facebook page of people who grew up in Andover Connecticut and when asked who their favorite teachers were so, so many of them remembered Mr. Turkington! That is where I found this picture of him with some of his students from 1972.

Like so many others, I had Mr Turkington as a sixth grade teacher and have never forgotten him. He was by far my favorite teacher of all time and contributed so much to my education and upbringing. Such a kind, ppatient, and dedicated man. I still think of him whenever I hear an incredibly eye-rolling pun! I am sorry to hear of his passing.

David was my favorite cousin. I have great memories of when I was young and the thrill of playing catch with my big cousin Dave. He had great presence and it was a laugh a minute when he was around. In later years, he was a great comfort to my mother after my father passed away. I will always remember David with great fondness.

David was my cousin- a great and caring guy. Growing up, our families were very close and our families spent a lot of time together. As happens, times change and my brother & I left the area. My independent, some would say, obstinate mother would not consider moving near one of us. We both visited often but as my mother advanced in age, we worried about her being alone and she resisted assistance. David lived next door. He visited my mother every day, sitting with her, telling his latest jokes and keeping a watch on her. As is the case of many elderly, she needed conversation more than physical care. Without David and another neighbor, my mother would never have been able to stay in her own home until just before she passed in her late 90´s. Such a good guy!

There are many wonderful memories of Mr. T. He was a true professional and dedicated teacher. Every student went at their own speed in math with him which looking back had to have been incredibly draining on him to keep up with, but it also allowed the students to advance to their capabilities. When our principle was away he was in charge. He knew everything about that school and how to handle any situation that came up. He kept the skunk alive on the chalk board and he always had a seat for Harvey the rabbit in his classroom. I admired him for his faithfulness in his church and his dedication to his family. He dedicated his life to service. Thanks for being you Mr T. You have moved on leaving a beautiful legacy.

I had Mr. T. in 6th grade. He was an effective and popular teacher. Have nice memories of him. I was speaking with another Andover student who said they ran into him recently in a restaurant and Mr. T remembered them, and they had a nice conversation.
