A young resident of Mansfield, I did not know Captain Carlson personally. However, it is immensely clear how much of an impact he had on the Tolland community and others close by.
My father was a CT State Trooper for 30 years. He moved to Troop C in Tolland in about 1999 and was immediately introduced to Captain Carlson. According to my dad and his fellow troopers, Captain Carlson was an outstanding human being and maintained a relationship with him for many years. My dad after hearing about the sudden passing of Captain Carlson produced strong emotions. Immediately fellow troopers like Dan McCarthy reached out to my dad to ask what happened. This is how much Captain Carlson impacted others in the community and his fellow first responders.
God bless the Carlson family and God speed moving forward.

I am in shock to say the least. I found out today that Dennis passed. I was actually saying hello to someone and mentioned him randomly and how great of a person he was. They proceeded to say that he will be missed and that is how I found out. Dennis was a person of true integrity. He helped me so much with my yard work and provided me with information that would help me maintain my home. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great, great person. I was never around when he came to do my lawn work, but it so happens that I was home and I decided to step outside to say hello. It had been about a year since I actually encountered him in person. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, the Tolland Fire Department, and to all of those who he touched with his kind heart. Sending many prayers.

I was a CNA for many years for a woman in Tolland. Dennis went above and beyond to help her. Did her lawn/made sure her driveway was plowed so I could get there in the winter. He even went to her Dr appointments with her when she knew she was dying. I can't believe I am reading this. So very sorry to his family for their loss.

My deepest sympathy to you and the family Reva, I only had the pleasure of meeting Dennis once. The both of you were meant to be your generous hearts matched. He drove his truck nearly an hour with you, from Tolland to my apartment in New Britain to bring Cassie a mattress set you had. That is just one example I am sure of more than you can count of the generosity of Dennis and your family. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by the community as well. Sending so much love your way. Colleen Monaghan & Cassie Riley

We have known Dennis since he, Reva and Ryan moved into our neighborhood and across the street from us. Dennis was a quite kind of guy, soft spoken and the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed one. He had a mischievous smile at times and would turn beet red when you´d tease him back. He was alway there checking in on his old neighbors with a watchful eye for anything that seemed out of the ordinary with one of us. Dennis, we will miss you immensely! Even though we would only see you coming or going many times to your job in the fire department or with your truck and trailer afterwards to take care of you lawn service or working on something in your garage, your presence with a wave or a smile acknowledging you saw us is something we will treasure. You, Reva and Ryan have been such caring and loving neighbors. We could never thank you enough for being there for support when we needed it. Gods speed Dennis. You will remain our angel.
