Terri, DJ, & Aaron,

We just learned of the tragic loss of Dennis through TV coverage at UCONN's first game of the season. We have followed DJ's career at UCONN with great pride and often thought of how proud you all must be to see DJ make it big time, especially Dennis who loved to watch his sons play ball. I had the privilage of getting to know this great family through AAU basketball in New Britain. I shared an entire week with Dennis & DJ as I drove them and five other team members to North Carolina in 1998 for the 12 & under AAU National Basketball Tournament. I was always in awe at what a terrific Dad Dennis was and how proud he was of his boys and the love he showed for you Terri. I lost my Dad this year and Rick, his grandfather, just 10 days after Dennis died, so we can certainly feel your pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Bette & Rick Mayo

To the Family of Dennis Hernandez, we pray that you will in time, find peace, knowing that Dennis is safe from all harm, and Happiness from the memories only a family as close as yours can make. Always think of those times and laugh as I know Dennis would. Remember that Dennis may be gone from sight, but never forgotten in our hearts. Dennis was an inspiration to everyone who knew him from, "back in the day" to the "generation of today", the Kids at Bristol Eastern are going to miss him dearly, as he would always have uplifting words to say. I will miss how no matter where he saw you he was always smiling and had a hand out or arms open, he was a gift from God that I will always be greatful for. Thanks, Dennis for being a person with love and for making Bristol a better place.

Terri, DJ & Aaron Right now it's hard and you shed those tears for a man who loved, and was a special person, but always remember he cherished, and loved you all, like a husband and father should with all his heart and soul. Condolences to the entire Hernandez Family...I had the priveledge of coaching/knowing Dennis with the Bristol Park Dept & Boy's Club programs. He was a shining example of sportsmanship & determination during those very formative years. It certainly is no surprise to me that he had passed those values on to his family. Dennis' energy will live on with you forever!

Dear Hernandez Family,

Today as I watched the funeral procession from my window at work, it proved what a lasting impression Dennis made in our community. I knew him from my children attending Eastern and my husband played ball with Dennis and Dave in the earlier years. Dennis certainly left his mark here through his great love and guidance to his family. Treasure the memories and please know that many people are praying for you. D.J. and Aaron, continue to make your Dad proud, and Davina, continue to make your uncle proud. To the extended Hernandez family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Terri,DJ and Arron,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I went to school with Dennis and David. WOW it seems like yesterday! We saw each other at the basketball games when DJ played with my nephew Chris at Bristol Central a few years back. My daughter Angela saw him everyday at school. She looked forward to talking to him for guidance in her decision on what sport to take. She would even help him in the cafe when needed just to talk. When she told us all the times she talked to Dennis I felt good knowing he cared for her and all the kids. He will be greatly missed. DJ and Arron I lost my dad at the age you are at. You have to go on for him, do well for him and live you life to make him proud. Remember he is still with you in your thoughts and all the many wonderful memories you have.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Terri, DJ, Aaron and the entire family: So sorry to hear of the loss of Dennis, it was quite shocking to see someone so talkative, lively, energenic and caring to leave all of us so young. The entire family must be very strong at this time of sorrow and stand together to make the family even stronger just like Dennis would have wanted it. Dennis I'm sure is looking down on all of you and will guide you in the day to day. I also think he will have plenty of more folks to talk to, greet and hug in the place he is currently at:) Our prayers are with the entire family at this time...

If it were not for my friendship with Mayra, I would not have had the pleasure of knowing the Hernandez Family and all the great family parties I was priveleged to attend with my daughter Kim. And even though it's been many years, each time I bump into a family member, they always give me that big hug and kiss of repsect. My heart breaks for the entire family of this loss.
