In Loving Memory of DIANE G. GELLENBECK
5/14/1952 - 8/24/1989
No farewell words were
spoken
No time to say goodbye
Gone before we knew it
And only God knows why
As we hold you close in
memory
Even though we are apart
Your smile and spirit live on
Here within our hearts

35 years have gone by and DIANE has never been forgotten. She enters my mind often. I was Diane's RA at the University of Connecticut and our friendship continued for years beyond her graduation until her horrific end. She was an absolutely lovely person, smart, compassionate, honest, hard-working, and funny. I think of her often and of what an unjust world this is.

It feels like fate... my mom worked with her at the bank in 1989 and I remember her devastated at the loss. I was too young to understand... but somehow this popped into my head today and it´s the anniversary of her passing. Now I´m old enough to understand the core memory of my mom´s sadness. Sending peace and love to her parents. My mom still shares fond memories from time to time of working with Diane.

So many wonderful memories I hold dear of Diane when we played softball and bowled, and such fun and laughter shared dancing and just being together. And of course her competitive nature I loved too, she was always there. Miss that laugh and smile

There are no words that can ease the pain of losing someone beloved. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that your loved one is in God's memory because those who pass away are precious in his eyes. Psalms 116:5. You and your family have my deepest condolences.

Although today is a sad day for me, I find comfort in remembering my sister's kindness. She was always patient and loving. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She loved to play games, travel, and be with family. She was always thinking of others and shared her loving heart with all those who knew her. I miss you, Diane.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. (Psalms 116:15)

Diane and I met as freshman at UConn and stayed friends until she died. The summer of our junior year, we spent 2 months backpacking across Europe. We had great adventures all over Europe and the Greek islands - jumping on trains, staying in hostels and campgrounds, meeting lots of people. I will always treasure that summer and the time I spent with Diane.

Diane Gellenbeck was a lovely, lovely person. We met when I was the Resident Advisor and she was a Freshman Counselor at UCONN and remained friends until her death. She was thoughful, smart, honest, sweet and everything else that all of that implies. Another UCONN friend and I drank a toast to her memory yesterday. We miss her still and think about her often. She will never be forgotten.

Prayers and love to Diane's family. The rest of us can only begin to understand how your lives have been changed during the past 20 years. Diane was my co-worker and my friend. We played bridge every day at lunch, I teased her because she was two months older than me, we lived and breathed "data processing" at Hartford National together. A piece of Diane lives in my heart today. Tears, prayers, love and a large measure of peace be with you...

I was a recipient of the Diane Gellenbeck Memorial Scholarship as a student at UConn over ten years ago, and I am still grateful and honored to have received this privilege. Ms. Gellenbeck seemed like an amazing person--full of life, love, and positive energy, much like my grandmother, whom we sadly lost today, coincidentally on the anniversary of Diane's death. I am so sorry for your loss, which probably still stings even now, 20 years later. My thoughts and prayers are with your family....

To the Gellenbeck family: My most vivid image of Diane is at a Bank softball game when she pulled out her own bat, ball and glove from the trunk of her car. I thought, not many gals have their own equipment! She came ready to play some ball and to have some fun. May she rest in peace
