Donald Paul Helander

1960 - 2023

Donald Paul Helander, 62, of Rochester, NH and formerly of Granby, beloved husband for 41 years of Ingrid Yvonne (Stromberg) Helander, passed on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Dover, NH surrounded by his family.

Born in Chicago, IL on September 29, 1960, son of the late Rueben William and Janice Marie (Hedin) Helander, he was raised in Chicago, IL and was a graduate of Lane Technical High School, Class of 1978.

After high school, Donald started working in the printing industry and spent most of his career in sales at AM Lithography in Chicopee, MA.

In 2021, Donald and Ingrid moved to Rochester, NH to be closer to their grandchildren. Don was an avid sailor for many years, captaining his boat Windsplitter out of Noank, CT. One of his greatest pleasures was to be on the water and to share this passion with family and friends on adventures around Block Island Sound.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves three sons, Nils Robert Helander and his wife Elizabeth of North Hampton, NH, Karl Rueben Helander of Turners Falls, MA, and Joel Niklas Helander of Rochester, NH; two grandchildren whom he adored, Lucie Rose Helander and Magnus James Helander both of North Hampton, NH; a sister, Judy Davis and her husband Rick of Petaluma, CA; a brother, Gary Helander and his wife Carol of Texas; a father-in-law, Robert Stromberg of Cromwell, CT; a sister-in-law, Sally Moon and her husband Rev. Dennis Moon of Granby; a brother-in-law, Bob Stromberg and his wife Judy of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on August 26th, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Heights, Noank, CT.
