Dorothy Keating Obituary

Dorothy G. Keating, 88, of Farmington and West Hartford, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday January 13, 2023. She survived her husband Michael J Keating who she was married to for 54 years. Dorothy was born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Nicholas & Assunta Galaro. She survived her brothers, Joseph Galaro, Anthony Galaro and Thomas Galaro. She worked at Bell Labs until she and her husband took a courageous move to CT in 1965. The original goal was to open a pet store and Dorothy learned to groom animals but then in 1969 Dorothy and Michael founded the Michael J. Keating Insurance Agency Inc. in West Hartford. After successful careers Dorothy and Michael J both retired in 1999 and the agency was transitioned into the second generation and now is into the third. Dorothy loved singing, birdwatching, cooking, baking, and more importantly her family. Dorothy was proud to have a family of four generations as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Michael F. Keating, daughter in law Barbara Keating of West Hartford, CT, her daughter Debra Keating of Farmington, Marguerite Glassman, and son in law Steve Glassman who live in Georgia. She is survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Keating, Maura Keating, Kevin Keating, Mara Haley Andriano and her husband Philip Andriano, Christopher Smith, Michael Smith (preceded in death), Benjamin Glassman, his wife, Chelsea Glassman, Hannah Mactas, her husband Daniel Mactas, Tyler Glassman and his wife, Tia Glassman. Dorothy is also survived by her great grandchildren, Kayla Haley, Taygen Smith, Joseph Andriano, Nico Andriano, Alora Glassman, Declan Glassman, Marshall Mactas, and Grayson Glassman. Per Dorothy's request there will be no services. Donations may be made in her honor to the Arthritis Foundation. https://www.arthritis.org/home.
