Dorothy S. Risley

Dorothy S. Risley, 85, of Vernon, beloved wife of the late George Risley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Enfield to the late Carl and Bernice (Burbank) Schlaick, she has been a Vernon resident for over 30 years. Dorre, as she was known, was a member of Ellington Ridge Country Club where she was an avid golfer and involved in many clubs there including the Bridge Club and book club. She loved sailing, wintering in Florida, traveling in her motorhome with her late husband George and skiing, but her true passion was spending time with her family who will miss her dearly. She was a loving mother that stood by her children and family through hard times and never faltered to provide unrelenting confidence and moral direction. Dorre provided a moral foundation for her entire family that has served them well and will be passed on to all future generations. She moved through life with a free spirit, beauty and grace. She will never be forgotten by her family and extensive network of friends. Dorre is survived by her sons, Richard Scavotto and his spouse Kenneth Sabatini of Niantic, Bruce Scavotto and his companion Eleanor of Falls Village; her stepdaughter Robin Parks and her husband Ted of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren Garret and Luke, Dan, Heather, Brandon, Margie, Chris,; and her great-grandchildren, Luma, Liam, Lydia, Pilar and Ula. Her family will receive friends on Friday, November 10 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, November 11 at the funeral home with burial to follow in East Windsor Hill Cemetery, South Windsor.
