Douglas P. Hodlin Jr.

1925 - 2019

Douglas P. "Irish" Hodlin Jr., 93, of Wethersfield, loving husband of 68 years to Mary (Tozzoli) Hodlin, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. Douglas was born December 20, 1925 and raised in Worcester, MA, one of four children of the late Douglas P. Sr. and Katherine (McHale) Hodlin. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943-1946. Douglas began his work career as a dedicated Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service for 50 plus years at the LaSalle Rd. office; along with being a Guard for Mercer & Dunbar Armored Car Services. Outside of work, Douglas had many passions which occupied his time, he was a proud member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus; a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield. Most importantly Douglas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished his family and the time they spent together. He was extremely proud of all his grandchildren and always supported their endeavors. In addition, he was an avid golfer and fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. In addition to his wife Mary, Douglas will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cathy Hodlin of Cromwell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carleen and Martin Cunningham of Broad Brook and Denise Blaede of Wethersfield; six adored grandchildren, Meghan, Andrew (Lindsay), Erin Hodlin, Danielle, Christopher and Brianna Gillette; a cherished great grand-daughter Cora Hodlin; two brothers-in-law, Sebastian Fiume and William Loos; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his three sisters, Mildred, Ann and Patricia. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Douglas' private aide Ama Badu. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Hodlin family Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield from 10am – 12pm, at which time a Tribute to Douglas' Life will be celebrated. Interment will follow the service in Village Cemetery (Hart Section) Marsh St., Wethersfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, St. Jude Place, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
