Doug was a great guy and really left a lasting impression. I worked with Doug briefly one summer and I just remember him being one of the kindest and most sincere people I have ever met. I always remember him being happy. God Bless you and yours Doug. Thank you for being such a great person...

Hearing about Doug's passing left me with an empty feeling and sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I knew Doug from the Sundays we spent together at the Patriots games. I looked forward to seeing his smiling face and wit along with the "high fives" each game he attended. He will be dearly missed...rest in peace my friend, you are in a better place.

Unfortunately I am in Raleigh, North Carolina at a convention and Mom just had her second knee replacement surgery this past Thursday, August 5th so we were unable to attend the calling hours or funeral for Doug. Doug, always had a kind word to say and we would talk about things I would be going through in my life with my children, and he said he wished when he was youger he would have had someone like me he could have gone to. Doug was the sort of special person we all wished others might think of us as. None of this makes any sense, except we know he's not suffering. I remember Dougey from 50 years ago. Our family lived on Deepwood Dr. across the st. fro the Sruton family. My brother Steve was the same age as Dougey and i was the same age as his sister Donna, we spent many funfilled, carefree days together, I will allways treasure those days! To the family of Douglas Scruton:
You probably don't remember me, but I am so sorry about what happened to Douglas. I grew up on the corner of Crestwood and Deepwood in Manchester and I spent some time with Jane, back in the days when kids could ride their bikes around the neighborhood and do a lot of other stuff unsupervised by parents (who were glad we were out of the house). I am 65 now, so Douglas was probably a baby or not even born when I was hanging around at the Scrutons. Our family left Manchester for the rural community of South Windsor in 1957. A little different now! I attended Verplanck through grade 6 and then was in South Windsor. My father, Steve Coffey, owned a service station on Center St. until the 50's and fondly remembers Whitey, a regular customer. Steve is 95 and still, thankfully, with us. We had a long coversation today about your wonderful family and those days in Manchester. My mother died in 2009 at age 90. Don't know if you knew or remember my brother, Tom, who is two years older than me. So although I don't remember Douglas, I have been brought back to the innocent times of childhood by reading of his life, and what a wonderful guy he was. Please know that I am one of so many people who are praying for Douglas and his family.

I met Doug about 30 years ago in our partying days, and we loved to talk Uconn Basketball. Our paths would cross many times over the years mostly in the rooms and we shared that special connection. We always talked sports and our gratitude for finding the rooms. Doug was a soft spoken always positive gentleman. I will miss him as we all will. I am so sorry for your loss.

I was shocked to see Doug Scruton as a victim of this terrible event. I was a very close friend of his sister Donna. i lived in Hawaii with her,Dave,Mica,Lorraine and Frank.
